THESE petites pieces, now first selected,

are committed to the public eye by the importunate defire of the Author's friends. If, therefore, to oblige them, he has ventured his reputation as a writer on the deep ocean of literature, to them only be attributes the risk of Fame, which is the general point in view by the meanest of palions, Vanity.
