AN ESSAY TOWARDS AN UNFOLDING THE GLORY OF CHRIST, IN HIS PERSON, LOVE, AND SALVATION, IN SEVERAL SERMONS, BY SAMUEL EYLES PIERCE. · WITH A RECOMMENDATORY PREFACE, By the Rev. ROBERT HAWKER, D. D. VICAR of CHARLES, PLYMOUTH. I will speak of the glorious Honour of thy Majesty, and of thy I wondrous Works. PSAL. CXLV. 5. London: AND SOLD BY AND W. BAYNES, 54, DITTO. THE great work of God the Holy Ghost, 1 in the ministry of his sacred word, and in his gracious influences shed abroad on the minds of his people, is to exalt the Son of God: Jesus himself so marked his character ; when speaking of him, he said, He shall glorify. me, Hence it will undeniably follow, that the great objeĉt of the gospel ministry fhould be directed to the promotion of the fame blessed purpose. And the highest testimony of any man's being called and sent forth by the HOLY Ghost, to minister in the church of JESUS, is, when that man makes CHRIST, the Alpha and Omega of all his ministerial labours. In this view, Mr. Pierce's writings appear to me eminently distinguished: the leading tendency of the whole being directed to set forth the LORD JESUS, in his essential, per{onal, relative, and mediatorial glories. |
