Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee...Prov. xxv. 16.

Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:-Prov. xxx. 8.

Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.-9.

Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit.Eccl. iv. 6.

Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire.-Eccl. vi. 9.

...And the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.-Eccl. vii. 8.

Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not enquire wisely concerning this.-10.

Eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.— Eccl. ix. 7.

THE VALUE OF A GOOD NAME.

I will bless thee, and make thy name great.Gen. xii. 2.

The Lord was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.-Josh. vi. 27.

Then she (Ruth) fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, (Boaz) Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shoudest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?-Ruth ii. 10.

And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath been fully shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.-11.

And he said, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my daughter... Ruth iii. 10.

...Fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.-11.

And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the

Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.— Ruth iv. 14.

Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.1 Sam. xviii. 30.

And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came to prove him with hard questions.-1 Kings x. 1.

And she said to the king, it was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom.-6.

And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.-1 Ch. xiv. 17.

And he (Uzziah) sought God:...and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper.— 2 Ch. xxvi. 5.

And his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.—8. His name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.-15.

Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces: for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.-Est. ix. 4.

The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.-Ps. cxii. 6.

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.-Prov. xxii. 1.

A good name is better than precious ointment... Eccl. vii. 1.

Thus saith the Lord, Keep ye judgment, and do justice... Isa. lvi. 1.

Blessed is the man that doeth this,...that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.-2.

Unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.—5.

THE INFLUENCE OF GOOD

PERSONS.

And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.-Gen. xviii. 26.

And Abraham answered and said,...27.

Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.-28.

And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.-29.

And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroyit for twenty's sake.-31.

And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry; and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.-32.
