5 17Luke the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judea, and Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
Mat. And behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy,
Lying on a bed.
Mar. And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy,
Which was born of four.
18 Luke And behold men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy.
Luke And they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
19 Luke And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in, because of the multitude,
They went upon the house-top, and let him down through the tiling with bis couch, into the midst before Jesus.
Mar. And when they could not come nigh unto him for
They uncovered the roof where he was; and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
Mar. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the sick of the palsy,
Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. 20 Luke And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. Mat. And Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy,
Son, be of good cheer, thy sins be forgiven thee. Mat. And behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves;
This man blasphemeth.
Mar. But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? 21 Luke And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason,
Who is this which speaketh blasphemies?
Mar. Who can forgive sins but God only?
Mar. And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit, that they so reasoned within themselves,
He said unto them; Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
22 Luke But when Jesus perceived their thoughts,
He answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
Mat. And Jesus knowing their thoughts,
Said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? Mat. For whether is easier to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee?
Or to say, Arise and walk?

Mar. Thy sins be forgiven thee?
24 Luke But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins,
(He said unto the sick of the palsy), I say unto thee,
Arise, and take up thy couch, and into go thine house.
Mar. But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins,
(He saith to the sick of the palsy), I say unto thee,
Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
Mat. But that ye may know that the Son of man hath
(Then saith he to the sick of the palsy),
Mat. And he arose,
And departed to his house.
25 Luke And immediately he rose up before them, and took
up that whereon he lay,
And departed to his own house, glorifying God.
Mar. insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified
Saying, We never saw it on this fashion. 26 Luk And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear,
Saying, We have seen strange things to-day. Mat. But when the multitude saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God,
Which had given such power unto men..
Sect. 34. Matthew is called from the receipt of custom near Capernaum. The disciples are blamed før not fasting. Mar. And he went forth again by the sea-side, and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
Mar. And as he passed by, he saw Levi, the son of Alpheus, itting at the receipt of custom,
And said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.
27 Luke And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom; And he said unto him, Follow me. And he left all, rose up, and followed him.
Mat. And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom And he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

And there was a great company of publicans, and of others,
That sat down with them.
Mar. And it came to pass, that as Jesus sat at meat in his house,
Many publicans and sinners
Sat also together with Jesus and his disciples for there were many, and they followed him.
Mat. And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house,
Came and sat down with him and his dis-
Mat, And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples,
Why eateth your master with publicans and sinners?
Mar. And when the Scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
30 Luke But their Scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying,
Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?
31 Luke And Jesus answering, said unto them,
They that are whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
Mar. When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them,
They that are whole have no need of the phy-
Mat. But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them,
Mat. But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice.
Mat. For I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Mar. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to re
Mar. And the disciples of John, and of the Pharisees, used to fast; and they come, and say unto him,
Why do the disciples of John, and the Pharisees fast,
But thy disciples fast not?
Why do the disciples of John fast often, and
But thine eat and drink?

Bride-chamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?
Mat. And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the Bride-chamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them?
Mar. And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the Bride-chamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?
Mar. As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
Mar. But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away
From them, and then shall they fast. 35 Luke But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away
From them, and then shall they fast in those days, 36 Luke And he spake also a parable unto them:
Luke No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old;
Mat. No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment;
Mar. No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment.
Mar. Else the new piece that filled it up
From them, and then they shall fast in those days. Mat. But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken
Taketh away from the old, and the rent is made
Mat. For that which is put in to fill up
Taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.
Luke If otherwise, then both the new
Maketh a rent,
Luke And the piece that was taken out of the new, agreeth not with the old.
37 Luke And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; Else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled,
And the bottles shall perish,
Mar. And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; Else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled,
And the bottles will be marred.
Mat. But they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
Mar. But new wine must be put into new bottles. 38 Luke But new wine must be put into new bottles, and both are preserved.
39 Luke No man also having drunk old wine, straightway de sireth new; for he saith, The old is better.

And worshipped him, saying,

Here the remaining part of the transposition from Mark, chap. v. comes in before the 13th verse of the 3d chapter of that evangelist in place of chap. ii. 23,—28. iii. 1,-12. which comes in after ver. 21. of that chapter. Here also the remaining part of the transposition from Luke, chap. viii. comes in before the 12th verse of the 6th chapter of that evangelist.
Sect. 35. The woman that had the flux of blood is cured in the street of Capernaum. Jairus' daughter is raised from the dead.
Mat. While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler,
he was a ruler of the synagogue:
And he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him,
Luke That he would come into his house :
For he had one only daughter about twelve years of age, and she lay a-dying.
My little daughter lieth at the point of death, I pray thee come and lay thy hands on her (See the Par. and Comment. on Matt. xix. 13. § 104.) that she may be healed, and she shall live.
Mat. My daughter is even now dead;
But come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.
Mat. And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.
Mar. And Jesus went with him, and much people followed him, and thronged him.
Luke(But as he went, the people thronged him.
43 Luke And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment.
Mar. And a certain woman which had an issue of blood twelve years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
Mat. (And, behold, a woman which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years,
Came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment.
Mat. For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.
