The Petition of Elizur Wright, of Boston, in regard

to Life Insurance, was referred to the Committee on Mer

cantile Affairs and Insurance.

Ordered, in concurrence, That the Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture, be instructed to consider the expediency of so amending the first section of the two hundred and thirty-second chapter of the Acts of eighteen hundred and fifty-five, that certain kinds of grain may be sold by measure or by weight, at the option of the contracting parties.

The Order of Mr. Boyce, of Berkley, of the ninth instant, relative to taxing railroads, came down from the Senate with the endorsement, "the Senate insisted on its amendment."

Pursuant to assignment, the Senate came in at twelve and a half o'clock, P. M., and the two branches being assembled in Convention, the oaths and affirmations required by the Constitution were taken and subscribed by Moses G. Cobb, of Dorchester, Counsellor elect for the present year.

The Convention then proceeded to make choice of an Attorney-General of the Commonwealth, for the ensuing political year; and, the votes having been taken and counted, it appeared that the Convention had made choice of

The business for which the two branches were convened having been accomplished, the Convention dissolved, and the Senate withdrew.

Ordered, in concurrence, That the Secretary give notice to the Governor, that Moses G. Cobb, of Dorchester, has been chosen, and is now qualified, in the manner prescribed by the Constitution, Counsellor to advise him, in the Executive part of government for the present political year; also,

That the Secretary give notice tò Hon. John H. Clifford, of New Bedford, that he has been chosen in the manner provided by the Constitution, Attorney-General of the Commonwealth for the current political year.

The Engrossed Resolve, "In favor of Henry A. Marsh," which originated in the House, was passed and sent to the Senate.
