SUPPLEMENT

To an act passed the twenty-first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and forty-six, entitled "An Act for the erection of a poor house in the county of Mifflin," and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, This act has not been carried into effect agrecable to the provisions, and is thereby inoperative; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly mel, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That

SECTION 4. the legal a dollars; and any goods and chattels whatsoever, of the gift, prison kee or bequest of any person or persons whatsoever; to purchase, keep and hold, any lands and tenements within the bounds of their dis to them bee simple, or otherwise; and erect suitable buildings for the for thon, use, and accommodation of the poor of said district; to provide all things necessary for the lodging, maintenance, and employment of said poor; to appoint a treasurer, annually, who shall give bond, with approved security, for the faithful discharge of the duties of his office; and at the expiration thereof, for the payment of all moneys, notes, bonds, book accounts, and other papers, to the said corporation belonging, which shall then be in his hands, custody and possession; and said directors shall have power to employ, and at pleasure remove a stewart or matron, physician, and all other attendants that may be necessary for the said poor, respectively; to bind out apprentices, so that such apprentinceship may expire, if males, at or before the age of twenty-one; if females, at or before the age of eighteen years: Provided, That no child shall be bound out for a longer time than he arrives at the age of eighteen years, unless he be bound to a trade other than a farmer: And provided, In all cases the person to whom they are bound, be required to give them at least three months' schooling in each year: Provided also, That no child shall be bound at a greater distance than thirty miles from the poor house; and the said directors shall exercise and enjoy all such other powers, not vested in the overseers of the poor, as are herein granted or supplied; and the said directors are hereby empowered to use one common seal, in all business relating to the said corporation, and the same at their pleasure to alter and renew.

SECTION 4. That if a majority decide in favor of a poor house, then Overseers to act the overseers of the poor of the said townships shall act as directors of the poor, for the time being, and shall classify themselves by lot, so that all but two shall go out of office first of April, one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight, and one of the remaining two shall go out of office first of April, one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine, and the remaining one first of April, one thousand eight hundred and fifty; that the voters of said district shall, at the township election in March, one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight, elect one director of the poor, and at each subsequent township election for other township officers, the said electors shall elect one director of the poor to serve for three years, the one elected taking the place of the one whose term expires, keeping always the board of directors three in number.

SECTION 5. Each director of the poor shall, within ten days after his election, be sworn or affirmed, to perform the duties of his appointment with fidelity, and shall enter on the duties of said office on the first day of April, in every year.

AN ACT

Relating to the auditors of Philadelphia county; also, to Delaware Sixth street, in said county; also, to the sinking fund of the said county; also, to the disposal of certain real estate by the commissioners of said county; also, to the vacation of a certain allev in Philadelphia city, to the erection of new county buildings, to the borough of Manayunk, and to the opening of Amber street.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from and after the first day of July next, the auditors of the county of Compensation of Philadelphia shall receive the same compensation, and be paid in like auditors of Philamanner as the commissioners of the county; and the same shall be in delphia county full compensation for all services rendered by them in the performance of their duties now imposed by law; and it shall not be lawful hereafter for the said auditors, or any of them, to demand or receive from the guardians of the poor, the board of health, the controllers of the public schools, the inspectors of the county prison, or any other body or individual, any fec, commission, compensation or reward whatever, for any service or duty which may be performed by them in their official capacity; and any violation or evasion of the provisions of this act, shall be deemed and taken as a misdemeanor in office, and shall be punished as like offences are now by law punished.

SECTION 2. That Delaware Sixth street, in the county of Philadelphia, shall be continued from Susquehanna avenue, in a straight line southwardly, until it intersects the Germantown road.

SECTION 5. That the county commissioners of the county of PhilaCommissioners of delphia be and they are hereby authorized to advertise and sell, either Philadelphia at public sale or out-cry, or by private sale, to the highest and best bidcounty to sell certain real estate der, all that tavern house, stables and two lots or pieces of ground, situate in and near Bridesburg, in the county of Philadelphia; one of the said lots situate, lying and being on the Frankford creek, in the township of the Northern Liberties, beginning at the low water of Frankford creek, at the distance of two feet from the easterly side of the said bridge; thence by lot three of a division made between the heirs of Joseph Kirkbride, deceased, south fifteen degrees, east four perches and forty-eight hundredths of a perch, to a stone; thence crossing Bridge street, south seventy-five degrees west forty-five feet; thence by the said Bridge street south eighteen degrees east fourteen perches and nine six hundredths of a perch, to a stone; thence along a street or road, south thirty-nine degrees west seventeen perches and sixty-four hundredths, more or less, to the middle of a thirty-three feet wide street or road; thence north fifteen (51) and fifty-one (one) minutes west along the line dividing this lot from that sold to Egbert Sommerdike, twentynine perches and eleven hundredths, to a stake placed at high water mark on the bank of the aforesaid creek; thence south six degrees west four perches, to low water mark of the said creek; thence down the same, the several courses thereof, to the place of beginning, containing about two acres and one-half of land, be the same more or less; and also all that certain strip or triangular piece of land, situate in Oxford township, in the county of Philadelphia, on the westerly side of a road leading from the Frankford and Bristol turnpike road to the bridge over Frankford creek, (commonly called Kirkbride's bridge,) containing in breadth, on the bank, at the distance of about thirty-seven feet from low water mark of the said creek, four feet three inches, and extending in length or depth northwardly, measured from low water mark of the said creek, two hundred and forty nine feet, to a point on the said road, together with all and singular the respective appurtenances, and to convey the same, in fee simple, or otherwise, to the purchaser or purchasers thereof; the net proceeds of the said sale to be paid by the said county commissioners into the public treasury of the county of Philadelphia.

SECTION 6.
