"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh

он,

in the morning.'

Ps. xxx. 5.

deem not they are blest alone
Whose lives a peaceful tenor keep;
The Power who pities man has shown
A blessing for the
eyes that weep.
There is a day of sunny rest

For every dark and troubled night,
And grief may bide an evening guest,

But joy shall come with morning light.
For God has mark'd each sorrowing day,
And number'd every secret tear,
And heaven's long age of bliss shall pay
For all His children suffer here.

Jer. xxii. 10.

THEY are all gone into a world of light!
And I alone sit lingering here!
Their very memory is fair and bright,
And my sad thoughts doth clear.

I see them walking in an air of glory,
Whose light doth trample on my days,
My days which are at best but dull and hoary,
Mere glimmerings and decays.

O Father of eternal life, and all
Created glories under Thee!

Resume Thy spirit from this world of thrall
Into true liberty!

"What meanest thou, O thou sleeper? arise, call

upon thy God."

Jonah i. 6.

WHAT meanest thou, O sleeper?

From sin and Satan sever;

To Jesus fly, while mercy 's nigh,
Or thou art lost for ever.
Oh, hear the voice of warning!
Christ only can deliver;
Open thine eyes, awake! arise!
Or thou art lost for ever!

"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might."

Eccles. ix. IO.

Do what thou hast to do ;

In prompt obedience move,

Thine onward, upward path pursue-
The path of truth and love.

And let not pain or loss

Thy steadfast soul affright

Look unto Him who bore the Cross,
And work with all thy might !

Do what thou hast to do,

Nor deem this earth thy goal;
Beyond the grave are pleasures new
For every faithful soul.

Then keep thy spirit free,

With sin and sorrow fight,

Aspire to immortality,

And work with all thy might !

When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not
to pay it."-Eccles. v. 4, 5.

VOWS and longings, hopes and fears,
Broken-hearted sighs and tears,

Promises in sorrow made,

Left, alas! too long unpaid;
Fervent wishes, earnest thought,
Never into action brought--
Long withheld, we now restore them,
On Thy holy altar pour them,

There in trembling faith to leave them.

Christ, present them! God, receive them!

"When Thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the earth will learn righteousness.” Ïsa. xxvi. 9.

THE

'HE judgments of our God,
That show His mighty arm,

Are in the earth abroad,

And fill it with alarm;

A time like this

Propitious is

To spread abroad in every place
The tidings of a Saviour's grace.
The doors now open stand

That lately all were barr'd,
Unlock'd at his command
To whom no work is hard.
He points the way,
Let us obey,

And spread abroad in every place

The tidings of a Saviour's grace.

T. Kelly.
