"The soul that sinneth, it shall die."

Ezek. xviii. 4, 20.

OH, weak and false and wilful,

Oh, cold and stubborn heart,
Self-centred, and self-seeking,
Neglecting thy true part;
Who now shall find a healing
For this deep-seated ill,
And who shall bend and strengthen
This weak and crooked will;
Who grapple with the darkness
And agonies, that lie
Hid in the righteous sentence,
"The soul that sins shall die?"
O Holy, Holy, Holy,

I flee unto Thy breast;
Upon its stainless Justice
Let a lost sinner rest!

"The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity, but a wounded spirit who can bear?" Prov. xviii. 14.

TH

HE heart may bend beneath the blast,
Of earthly sorrow, earthly pain,

And when the blighting storm hath past,
Unhurt, unscathed, may rise again;
Yet, though it deeply feel, 'twill melt
In tears of joy, if peace be there,
But who that ever yet hath felt

"The spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Eccles. xii. 7.

A

WAY! thou dying Saint, away!
Fly to the mansions of the blest;
Thy God no more requires thy stay,
He calls thee to eternal rest.

Thy toils at length have reach'd a close,
No more remains for thee to do;
Away, away, to thy repose

Beyond the reach of evil, go.

And may our happy portion be,
To join thee in the realms above,
The glory of our Lord, to see,
And sing His everlasting love.

"The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart, the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes."

Ps. xix. 8.

THY statutes, Lord, are good and pure,
They make the simple wise;

Thy testimonies, clear and sure,
Illume our darken'd eyes.

Oh! be the sacred pleasure mine,

Unceasingly to draw,

Fresh from the fount of life divine,

The sweetness of Thy law.

"The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple."-Ps. xix. 7.

JEHOVAH'S law perfection is,

It makes the soul arise?
Jehovah's testimony's sure,
It makes the foolish wise.
Jehovah's statutes upright are,
Making the heart to sing;
Jehovah's precept is most pure,
The eyes enlightening.

Yea, and Thy servant daily draws,
Due admonition thence,
In keeping them he also finds
A glorious recompense.

"The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination unto the Lord."-Prov. xv. 26.

ALL thought of ill-all evil deeds

That have their root in thoughts of ill,

Whatever hinders or impedes

The action of the nobler will!

All these must first be trampled down
Beneath our feet, if we would gain
In the bright field of fair renown
The right of eminent domain.
Nor deem the irrevocable past,
As wholly wasted, wholly vain,
If rising on its wrecks, at last

To something nobler we attain.

Longfellow.
