thy prefence?' And they are to reft fo in their Graves, till the Resurrection Job xix. 26. 27. And though after my fkin, worms deftroy this body, yet in my flefh fhall I fee God: whom I fhall fee for myself, and mine eyes fhall behold, ' and not another; though my reins be confumed " within me.'

The Dead will rife again: Acts xxiv. 15. There 'fhall be a refurrection of the dead, both of the " just and unjuft.' John v. 28. 29. The hour is

coming, in the which all that are in the graves 'fhall hear his voice, and fhall come forth, they that have done good, unto the refurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the refur⚫rection of damnation.' And the Refurrection of the Dead will be at the last Day, when Chrift comes again to Judgment: 1 Theff. iv. 15. 16. For this

we fay unto you by the word of the Lord, that " we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord, fhall not prevent them which are afleep. For the Lord himself shall defcend from heaven with a fhout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God and the dead in Chrift fhall rife firft. Some will be then found alive, as at this Day: 1 Cor. xv. 51. Behold, I 'fhew you a mystery: We shall not all fleep, but "we fhall all be changed.' And they fhall not die and rife again; but instead of dying and rising again, they fhall be changed, 1 Cor. xv. 51. above cited. They that fhall rife again, are, all the Dead, fmall and great, just and unjust, John v. 28. forecited. Rev. XX. 12. And I faw the dead, fmall

and great, ftand before God.' Acts xxiv. 15. forecited. The Dead will be raised by the Power of God: 1 Cor.vi. 14. 'And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will alfo raise up us by his own power.' God will not make them new Bodies, but they fhall rise again with the self-fame Bodies that were laid in the Grave: 1 Cor. xv. 53. This cor-ruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal muft put on immortality.' Job xix. 26. forecited. The Poffibility of fuch a Refurrection of the Dead appears, from the Omniscience and almighty Power of God: Heb. iv. 13. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his fight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.' Rev. iv. 8. And the four beafts had each of them fix wings about him, and they were full of eyes within; and they reft not day and night, faying, Holy, < holy, holy, Lord God almighty, which was, and

is, and is to come.' The Concern that the Omniscience of God hath in the Refurrection of the Dead, is, to discern every one's Duft from another's, and from the common Duft of the Earth. And that is all the Odds, between the first forming of Man's Body, and the forming it anew at the Refurrection For Man's Body was originally Duft lying here and there on the Ground: Gen. ii. 7. And the Lord God formed man of the duft of the ground.' Chap. iii. 19. In the fweat of thy face fhalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it waft thou taken for duft thou art, and unto duft fhalt thou return.' The Concern that the almighty Power of God hath in it, is, to bring together all the Duft of the fame Body, form it again into a Body, and reunite the

Soul thereto. The Certainty of fuch a Refurrection appears, from the Truth and Faithfulness of God, who has faid it: John v. 28. 29. forecited. Dan. xii. 2. And many of them that fleep in the duft of the earth, fhall awake, fome to everlasting life, and fome to shame and everlasting contempt. The railing of the Dead, and the changing of those then alive, will be done in a Moment, at the Sound of the laft Trumpet: 1 Cor. xv. 52. "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the laft trump, (for the trumpet fhall found); and the dead 'fhall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be 'changed. Compared with Theff. iv. 16. 17. 'The Lord himself shall defcend from heaven with ( a fhout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Chrift 'fhall rife firft: then we which are alive and re'main, shall be caught up together with them in

the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and fo 'fhall we ever be with the Lord.' And the raised and the changed Bodies will differ from what they were before, during this Life, in their Qualities, though not in their Substance, 1 Cor. xv. 52. 53. forecited.

Queft. 38. What Benefits do Believers receive from Chrift at the Refurrection? Anf. At the Refurrection, Believers being raised up in Glory, fhall be openly ac knowledged and acquitted in the Day of Judgment, and made perfectly bleffed in full enjoying of God to all Eternity.

EXPLICATION.

Believers, or they that are effectually called, justifed, adopted, and fanctified in their Life, shall receive or partake of the whole Benefits of Chrift's Purchafe at the Refurrection: And they fhall then receive the whole, by thefe Degrees; to wit, fome in the Refurrection itself, more in the Judgment, and the completing Benefit after Judgment.

The Benefit of Chrift's Purchase they shall receive in the Resurrection itself, is, that they shall be raifed up in Glory: 1 Cor. xv. 43. 'It is fown in

difhonour, it is raised in glory.' The Way how they will be raised, is, that Chrift will raise them as bis own Members, by his Spirit dwelling in them, even as one awaking draws his Limbs to him: Rom. viii. 11. If the Spirit of him that raised up Jefus from the dead, dwell in you; he that raised up Chrift from the dead, fhall alfo quicken your mortal bodies, by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.' The Likeness in which their Bodies fhall be fafhioned anew in the Refurrection, is, the Likeness of the glorious Body of the Second Adam: 1 Cor. XV. 49. As we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall alfo bear the image of the heavenly. Compared with Philip. iii. 21. Jefus Chrift fhall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body.' They will be raised incorruptible, glorious, strong, and spiritual Bodies: 1 Cor. xv. 42. 43. 44. It is fown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption: it is fown in difhonour, it is raised in glory: it is fown in weaknefs, it is raised in power: it is fown a natural body, it is raifed a fpiritual body.'

But the Wicked fhall be raised in Dishonour : And the Way how they will be raised, is by the Power of Christ as an offended Judge: John v. 29.

And shall come forth, they that have done evil, • unto the refurrection of damnation.' Matth. xxv.

33.. And the Son of man fhall fet the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.'

Immediately after the Refurrection will follow the general Judgment: Rev. xx. 13. And the fea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them and they were judged every man accord · ing to their works.'

There will be a Day of general Judgment: Acts xvii. 31. God hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteoufnefs, by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given affurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.' The Man Chrift will be the Judge: Acts xvii. 31. above cited; compared with Rom. xiv. 10. We fhall all stand before the judg 'ment-feat of Chrift.' And he will be seen with the bodily Eyes of all: Job xix. 26. 27.
