233. The said commissioners shall cause a waggon road to be laid out and made from each of the said places on the said forks, to the nearest high road in the upper parts of this state, at the expense and labour of the inhabitants residing within six miles on each side of the roads so to be made.

245. If any person or persons shall be sued for any thing done in pursuance of this act, such person or persons may plead the general issue, and give this act, and the special maťter in evidence. And in case the plaintiff shall suffer a discontinuance, or judgment shall pass against him, her, or them, the defendant shall be allowed his treble costs of suit.

247. The commissioners of St. Paul's and St. Bartholomew's parishes, or a majority of each of them, are hereby authorized to meet as soon as may be, and to agree with any person or persons to undertake the building and keeping in Bridge over repair a bridge over Pon-pon river, at Jacksonborough, and to Pon-pon river at Jacksonbo. erect a house for a toil-collector on any land most contiguous rough. or convenient thereto, and to lease out the same on toll for any number of years not exceeding twenty-one, affixing the rates of such toll.

Five commissioners, to be annually appointed by his excellency the governor or the commander in chief for the time being, or a majority of them, shall contract for any term not exceeding fourteen years, with one or more fit and proper person or persons to keep in good and substantial repair the causeway known by the name of Lynch's causeway, on the road leading from Charleston to Georgetown, and that the said commissioners, or a majority of them, shall superintend the said person or persons so contracting, to whom they shall allow a sufficient toll on the said causeway as a compensation

for their trouble and labour in repairing and keeping the same in good and substantial repair.
