Good Will & Mutual Understanding

If you believe in the ideals of The New Outlook, if you wish to do your bit to counteract communism abroad and build up American prestige and a peaceful future, will you not show it by cooperating with us in disseminating our magazine as widely as possible? We want to see it in the libraries and colleges of the East and the West.

If you will send us subscriptions for this purpose, we will, for only $1 per subscription, send The New Outlook for one year to a library or University. Alas! We know that ideals can never be completely embodied in practice. Ideals must ever lie a great way off-and we will thankfully content ourselves with any not intolerable approximation theretol... And yet, it is never to be forgotten that ideals do exist; that if they be not approximated to at all, the whole matter goes to wreck! -Carlyle

One Touch Of Sympathy

Makes The World Akin

I BELIEVE THAT one of the evidences of progress and of twentieth century enlightenment is sympathy for all men and all views and all good works.

If we cannot all agree in all things, we can at least sympathize with one another. We can be tolerant if we differ in tastes, in appearances, in habits, in beliefs, in politics and in religion. Men in the same line of business sympathize with one another; so do men in the same society or lodge or club or church or political party. We may differ in many things and still be united in one or two. Nationally there prevails but one sentiment.

Now, as we step outside of the nation and sink the citizen and the church member in the man, we come to sympathize for one another simply as such. Thus we rise from nationality to cosmopolitanism, from sectarianism to liberalism, from individualism to universalism. Whatever may separate men "one touch of sympathy makes the world akin.”
