And as no Man can do this of himfelf, without Divine Aid; fo by the Affiftance of the good Spirit of God all may do it, while the Vifitation of God's Love is extended to them, as plainly appears by the foregoing •Lines.

And as I was fenfible, when, fome Years ago, it was my Lot to Travel, and Labour in fome Parts of New England, Road and Long Island, and in divers other Provinces and Ilands in AMERICA, in the Work of the Gospel of Jefus Chrift, that there was a Breathing Hungering Seed in those Countries, a People that were feeking after, and waiting for the coming of the Kingdom of God with Power; towards whom I have often felt the yearning Bowels of God's Love to roul in me; So my Soul greatly defires, that they may come to the Knowledge of the Truth, and be faved: For there is One God, and One Mediator betwixt God and Men, the Man CHRIST JESUS, who gave Himself a Ranfom for all, to be teflified in due time, 1 Tim. 2. 5, 6. And this is He whom Mofes, that Great Prophet, directed all to hear: and they that would have Salvation by him, must hear him, and receive his Inftructions: God Himfelf has Commanded People to hear him the Voice which came from the Moft Excellent

"Excellent Glory gave Witnefs to Him, faying, This is my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleafed, Hear ye bim, 2 Pet. 1. 17. Mat. 17. 5. He was to be heard, and his Teachings received in the Days of his Flesh; he is ftill to be heard, and received as Chief Teacher in his Church and People in this the Day of his Spiritual Appearance and Manifeftation.

David was King and Prophet, Melchifadec King and Prieft; King of Salem, and Prieft of the Moft High God: But CHRIST is King, Prieft, and Prophet in his Church; her is Anointed with the Oil of Gladnefs above his Fellows He ought to Rule in his Church. and People as King, and to have the Go--vernment of their Spirits, that he may fave, defend, and deliver them from their Spiritual Enemies, and conduct them to his Heavenly Kingdom: He is a Prophet to open to them the Mysteries of Life and Godliness, to direct, teach, and inftru&t them in the Way wherein He would have them to go: A Prieft, by and through whom Spiritual. Sacrifices, even the Sacrifice of Prayer, Praifes, and Thanksgiving are Offered up to GOD the Father: He is our All in All, and without Him we can do nothing. In Him the Father is well pleafed, and nothing done. out of him, out of his Light and Counfel, pleaseth God the Father: And therefore we are to hear Him, and to receive His Coun daily. C 3

The Primitive Preachers of the Gospel directed People to him, they Preached not themselves, but Jefus Chrift; and they did not only Preach Jefus Chrift as he came of the Seed of Abraham and David, and fuffered in the Flefh, but as he was and is an Eternal Spirit The Apoftle Peter faith, 1 Pet. 3. 18, 19. Chrift bath once fuffered for Sins, the Fuft for the Unjust, that he might bring us to God; being put to Death in the Flesh, but Quickned in the Spirit. By which alfo he went and Preached to the Spirits in Prifon.

He went by his Spirit, or Spiritually, and preached to Imprifoned Spirits; he did not only Preach Truth and Righteousness to Men when he was in the Flefh, but he preached in his Spiritual Manifeftation to them who were Imprifoned Spiritually, i. e. to those who were held in Spiritual Captivity and Thraldom, by their Spiritual Enemy.

And they who at this time find themfelves under the Power of Sin and Satan, have great need to wait for fuch Spiritual Preaching and Teaching, that by the Spirit of Chrift they may both be taught and helped; Taught to forfake the Devil and his Works, and helped to withstand him and his Temptations at all Times.

The Apostle Paul was fent to open Peoples Eyes, by turning them from Darkness to I and from the Power of Satan to

God, that they might receive. Remiffion of Sins, and an Inheritance among them that were fanctified through Faith in Chrift Jefus,

This Blindness was within; The Eyes of the Understanding is here fpoke of: And the Apostle was fent to open them, by turning People from the Spiritual Darknefs which had been over them, and whereby they had been Blinded as to the Things of God, to the Light which difcovers and makes manifeft Darkness; and, by removing of it, gives Sight to the Eyes which before had been clofed: For as no Man can be a Light to himfelf, fo Spiritual Light difcovers Spiri tual Darknefs, and gives Spiritual Sight to those who are turned to it: And this Spiritual Light is within Men, it fhines into Mens Hearts; God who commanded the Light to fhine out of Darkness, faid the Apoftle, bath fhined in our Hearts, to give us the Light of the Knowledge of the Glory of God in the Face of Jefus Chrift, 2 Cor. 4. 6. But we have this Treafure in Earthen Veffels, that the Excellency of the Power may be of God, and not of us, Ver. 7.

This fure is a Divine fufficient Light, a Soul faving Light, which gave, and ftill gives The Light of the Knowledge of the Glory of God in the Face of Jefus Chrift; and this Heavenly Treafure the Frimitive Chriftians

had in their Earthen Veffels. This Divine Treafure of Light and Wifdom, which comes from God, and leads unto God, is manifeft in Man; and thereby he comes to have the Knowledge of God, whom to know, with his Son Jefus Chrift, is Life Eternal.

And as this Heavenly Treafure, which gives the Light of the Knowledge of the Glory of God, &c. is in Men; fo the Apoftle in another Place tells us that That which may be known of God is manifeft in them, for God has fhewed it unto them, Rom. 1. 19. He fhows it unto them by the Light of his Son, which fhines in them: And Bleffed are you who turn your Minds to this Divine Light, in which the Nations of them that are faved muft walk in the Light of the Lamb, who is the Light of that Holy City, NEW FERUSALEM, which John law come down from God out of Heaven.

The Primitive Chriftians gathered to the Peaceable Shiloh, they gathered to Chrift in Spirit: Now we beseech you, "Brethren, by the Coming of our Lord Jefus Chrift, and by our Gathering together unto Him, that ye be not foon fhaken in Mind, &c. 2 Theff. 2. 1, 2. They gathered unto Him, unto whom Jacob Prophefied, The Gathering of the People` fhould be, and whom all are to Hear, and receive the Teachings of in this Gofpel-Day; For God, who at fundry Times, and in divers
