So that in this Gofpel-Day, no Man need go far for a Teacher, having one nigh him that cannot be Removed into a Corner: nor for a Comforter, having one within Himfelf; neither need he look out for a Guide, the Spirit of Truth being ready to guide all that will follow it Into all Truth, John 16. 13. But this Spirit of Truth the World cannot receive, becaufe it feeth him not, neither knoweth him: But ye know him, (faith Chrift to his Difciples) for he dwelleth with you, and Shall be in you.

Chrift while he was in the Fleth, was a Comforter to them that Believed in him but not to them that would not receive him: Thefe faw Him not, neither did they know him; they faw not the Glory of his Divinity, neither knew the Comfort that was and is in Him. He was in the World, and the World was made by Him, and the World knew Him not: He came unto his own, and his own received Him not: but as many as received Him, to them gave be Power to become the Sons of God; even to them that believe on his Name, John I. 10, 11, 12. Thofe that received him as the Son of God, and Believed in the Sufficiency of his Power, thofe receiv ed Power to become the Sons of God.

And as People receive Chrift in his Spiri tual Appearance, they will know him to be their Comforter, whofe Glory they once had

no Sight nor Lnowledge of, neither did they know that it was the Comforter, the Holy Ghoft, which reproved them for Sin, there being a Vail over their Heart : but when it (i. e. the Heart) fhall turn to the Lord, the Vail fhall be taken away. Now the Lord, faid the Apoftle, is that Spirit: He is that Spirit which takes away the Vail, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty, 2 Cor. 3. 17.

The Heart turning to the Spirit of the Lord, which reproves Man for Sin, the Vail, which hath been over the Heart, comes to be Removed, and the Glory of Chrift is revealed; and the Soul Experiences Him to be its COMFORTER, which was once its REPROVER, being turned from the World, toward Him who Reproved it for its Sin and Iniquity, before it could fee, know, or receive Him as a COMFORTER: But by turning at the Reproofs of Inftruction, a Spiritual Eye is Opened, and He is feen and received, whom the World can neither fee, know, nor receive, as a Teacher, Comforter, or Guide, while it remains in its Blindness, and will not receive thofe inward · Checks and Reproofs, which for Sin it meets with, as proceeding from the DIVINE SPIRIT; but the World call them, The CHECKS of a Natural Confcience, and fay, That is the LIGHT of Nature, which makes manifeft Reprovable Things. Whereas it is really

really The DIVINE LIGHT of Chrift: For it is moft certain, That nothing can give Man a true Difcovery of his finful Eftate, and the Spiritual Darkness whereinto he hath plunged himself by reafon of Sin:" But the Divine LIGHT of the Son of God, the LIFE of that Word which was in the Beginning with God: In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God: the fame was in the Beginning with God: by Him were all things made, and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him waÁS Life, and the Life was the Light of Men, John 1. 1, 2, 3, 4.

The Life of the Divine Word was and is the Light of Men; and this is an Inward Light, a Light that fhines in the Soul, and brings the Soul that believes in it to partake of Divine Life.

The Life of the Divine Word, and the Light, is not to be divided or feparated; and HE (i. e. Chrift) is the True Light, which lighteth every Man that cometh into the World, Ver. 9. He Lighteth every Man that cometh into the World with his own Light. And this Divine Light maketh manifeft to the Soul thofe things which are Reprovable: All things that are reproved are made manifeft by the Light; for whatfoever doth make manifeft is Light, Eph. 5. 13. Chrift was David's Light,

Light, The Lord (faid David) is my Light and my Salvation; whom Shall I fear? The Lord is the Strength of my Life, of whom shall I be afraid, Pfal. 27. 1. And he is the Light of all them that Witnefs Salvation by Him: He is the Light which Difcovers and leads out of Spiritual Darknefs, into the Enjoyment of Life and Subftance: He leads in the Way of Righteoufnefs, and in the midst of the Paths of Judgment, caufing them that Love Him to inherit Subftance; and He will fill their Treasures. He was nigh to Old Ifrael by his Light and Spirit; yea, he followed them, and did Refresh their Souls by His Divine Life and Goodness: He was Spiritual Meat and Drink to 'em, They did all eat the Same Spiritual Meat, and did all drink the fame Spiritual Drink; for they drank of that Spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Chrift, 1 Cor. 10. 3, 4.

This is a Bleffed Teacher that's freely given of God to the Children of Men; who, if they would but take heed to the Teachings of it, need not lay out their Money for a Teacher: But notwithstanding Chrift hath laid down his Life for all Men, and by his Light fhines into all Men, and the Grace which comes by him hath appeared unto all Men, and the Manifeftation of the Spirit be given unto every Man to profit withal, 1 Cor. 12. 7. Yet, if People will have their own Ways, they may grope in the Dark, and ftagger to and fro like Drunken Men: And of fuch the Prophet fpeaks on this wife:

They are Drunken, but not with Wine they fagger, but not with ftrong Drink: for the Lord hath poured out upon you the Spirit of deep Sleep, and bath closed your Eyes. The Prophets, and your Rulers, the Seers hath be covered; and the Vifion of all is become unto you as the Words of a Book that is fealed, which Men deliver to one that is Learned, faying, Read this I pray thee; and he faith, I cannot for it is fealed: and the Book is delivered to him that is not Learned, faying, Read this I pray thee; and he faith, I am not Learned, Ifaiah 29. 9, 10, 11, 12.
