14 Mais les apôtres, Barnabas et Paul, l'ayant appris, déchirèrent - leurs vêtemens, et se jetèrent au milieu de la foule, en s'écriant, 15 Et disant: Hommes, pourquoi faites-vous cela? Nous ne sommes que des hommes, sujets aux mêmes infirmités que vous; et nous vous annonçons, qu'en quittant ces choses vaines, vous vous convertissiez au Dieu vivant, qui a fait le ciel, la terre et la mer, et toutes les choses qui y sont;

16 Qui dans les temps passés a laissé marcher toutes les nations dans leurs voies,

17 Quoiqu'il n'ait point cessé de donner des témoignages de ce qu'il est, en nous faisant du bien, en nous envoyant les pluies du ciel, et les saisons fertiles, en nous donnant la nourriture avec abondance, et en remplissant nos cœurs de joie.

18 Et en disant cela, à peine purent-ils empêcher le peuple de leur sacrifier.

19 Alors, quelques Juifs survinrent d'Antioche et d'Iconie, qui gagnèrent le peuple, en sorte qu'ayant lapidé Paul, ils le traînèrent hors de la ville, croyant qu'il était mort.

20 Mais les disciples s'étant assemblés autour de lui, il se leva, et rentra dans la ville, et le lendemain il s'en alla avec Barnabas à Derbe.

21 Et après avoir annoncé l'évangile dans cette ville-là, et y avoir fait plusieurs disciples, ils retournèrent à Lystre, à Iconie et à Antioche;

22 Fortifiant l'esprit des disciples, les exhortant à persévérer dans la foi, et leur représentant que c'est par plusieurs afflictions qu'il nous faut entrer dans le royaume de Dieu. 23 Et après avoir prié et jeûné, ils établirent des anciens dans chaque église, et ils les recommandèrent au Seigneur, en qui ils avaient cru.

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein :

16 Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.

17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

18 And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.

19 T And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.

20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

27 Et quand ils furent arrivés, et qu'ils eurent assemblé l'église, ils racontèrent toutes les choses que Dieu avait faites par eux, et comment il avait ouvert aux Gentils la porte de la foi.

28 Et ils demeurèrent là longtemps avec les disciples.

CHAPITRE XV.

OR, quelques-uns qui étaient ve

nus de Judée, enseignaient les frères, et leur disaient: Si vous n'êtes circoncis selon l'usage de Moïse, vous ne pouvez être sauvés. 2 Sur quoi une grande contestation et une dispute s'étant élevée entre Paul et Barnabas et eux, il fut résolu que Paul et Barnabas, avec quelques-uns d'entre eux, monteraient à Jérusalem, pour consulter les apôtres et les anciens sur cette question.

3 Étant donc envoyés de la part de l'église, ils traversèrent la Phénicie et la Samarie, racontant la conversion des Gentils; et ils donnèrent une grande joie à tous les frères.

4 Et étant arrivés à Jérusalem, ils furent bien reçus par l'église, par les apôtres, et par les anciens, et ils racontèrent toutes les choses que Dieu avait faites par eux.

5 Mais, dirent-ils, quelques-uns de la secte des Pharisiens, qui ont cru, se sont élevés, disant, qu'il fallait circoncire les Gentils, et leur ordonner de garder la loi de Moïse.

24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

28 And there they abode long time with the disciples.

CHAPTER XV.

ND certain men which came

AND certain medea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

2 When therefore Paul and Bar. nabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

3 And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.

5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. 6 T And the apostles and elders

7 Et après une grande dispute, Pierre se leva, et leur dit: Mes frères, vous savez qu'il y a longtemps que Dieu m'a choisi d'entre nous, afin que les Gentils entendissent par ma bouche la parole de l'évangile, et qu'ils crussent.

ε Et Dieu, qui connaît les cœurs, leur a rendu témoignage, leur donnant le Saint-Esprit aussi bien qu'à nous;

9 Et il n'a point fait de différence entre nous et eux, ayant purifié leurs cœurs par la foi.

10 Maintenant donc, pourquoi tentez-vous Dieu, en voulant imposer aux disciples un joug que ni nos pères ni nous n'avons pu porter? 11 Mais nous croyons que nous serons sauvés par la grâce du Seigneur Jésus-Christ, de même qu'eux.

12 Alors, toute l'assemblée se tut, et ils écoutaient Barnabas et Paul, qui leur racontaient quels miracles et quelles merveilles Dieu avait faits par eux, parmi les Gentils.

13 Et après qu'ils eurent cessé de parler, Jacques prit la parole, et dit: Mes frères, écoutez-moi.

9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? 11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

12 T Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.

13 ¶ And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken

unto me:

14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his

name.

15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, whieh is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins there. of, and I will set it up:

17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

18 Toutes les œuvres de Dieu lui sont connues de toute éternité.

19 C'est pourquoi j'estime qu'il ne faut point inquiéter ceux d'entre les Gentils qui se convertissent à Dieu;

20 Mais qu'il faut leur écrire de s'abstenir des souillures des idoles, de la fornication, des choses étouffées et du sang.

21 Car, pour ce qui est de Moïse, y a depuis plusieurs siècles, dans chaque ville, des gens qui le prêchent dans les synagogues, où on le lit tous les jours de sabbat. 22 Alors, les apôtres et les anciens avec toute l'église jugèrent à propos d'envoyer à Antioche des personnes choisies d'entre eux, avec Paul et Barnabas, savoir, Jude, surnommé Barsabas, et Silas, qui étaient des principaux d'entre les frères ;

23 En écrivant par eux en ces termes: Les apôtres, les anciens et les frères, à nos frères d'entre les Gentils qui sont à Antioche, en Syrie et en Cilicie, salut.

24 Comme nous avons appris que quelques-uns qui sont partis d'entre nous, vous ont troublés par leurs discours, et ont ébranlé vos âmes, en disant qu'il faut être circoncis et garder la loi; de quoi nous ne leur avions donné aucun ordre;

25 Nous avons été d'avis, après nous être assemblés d'un commun accord, de vous envoyer des personnes choisies, avec nos chers frères Barnabas et Paul,

26 Qui sont des hommes qui ont exposé leur vie pour le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.

27 Nous vous envoyons donc Jude et Silas, qui vous feront aussi entendre les mêmes choses de bouche. 28 C'est qu'il a semblé bon au Saint-Esprit et à nous, de ne vous point imposer d'autre charge que ces choses qui sont nécessaires.

18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:

20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. 21 For Moses of old time hath ir every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

22 Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnam ed Barsabas, and Silas, chief mon among the brethren:

23 And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia:

24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law; to whom we gave no such commandment:

25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.

28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

32 Jude et Silas, qui étaient euxmêmes prophètes, exhortèrent et fortifièrent aussi les frères par plusieurs discours.

33 Et après qu'ils eurent demeuré là quelque temps, les frères les renvoyèrent en paix vers les apô

29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle: 31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

33 And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.

34 Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.

35 Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching__and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

36 ¶ And some days after, Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.

37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.

38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
