MOONLIGHT NIGHT.

IS midnight; on the mountains brown
The cold round Moon shines deeply

down;

Blue roll the waters, blue the sky
Spreads like an Ocean hung on high,
Bespangled with those isles of light,
So wildly, spiritually bright;

Who ever gazed upon them shining,
And turn'd to earth without repining,
Nor wish'd for wings to flee away,
And mix with their eternal ray?

Byron.

MOONLIGHT NIGHT.

How beautiful is Night!

A dewy freshness fills the silent air;

No mist obscures, nor cloud, nor speck, nor stain,
Breaks the serene of heaven :

In full-orb'd glory yonder Moon divine

Rolls through the dark-blue depths.
Beneath her steady ray

The desert circle spreads,

Like the round Ocean, girdled with the sky.

How beautiful is Night!

Southey.
