Mr. WILLIAM BRADFORD, No. 8 South Front Street, Philadelphia, is appointed Printer of the General Assembly, and Agent for forwarding the Minutes to the Presbyteries; and to him must the Presbyteries apply in future, for their respective portions.

MINUTES.

THE General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America met, agreeably to appointment, in the Seventh Presbyterian Church in the city of Philadelphia, May 15th, 1823, at 11 o'clock, A. M. and was opened by the Rev. Obadiah Jennings, the Moderator of the last Assembly, with a sermon from Hag. i. 7 and 8. "Thus saith the Lord of Hosts, Consider your ways. Go up to the mountain and bring wood and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,

saith the Lord."

After prayer the Commissions were read, and it appeared that the following Ministers and Elders were duly appointed, and attended as Commissioners to this Assembly, viz:

The Rev. John McFarland, of the Presbytery of Ebenezer, Dr. Cyrus Baldwin, ruling elder from the Presbytery of Onondaga, and Mr. Samuel Blood, ruling elder from the Presbytery of Carlisle, appeared in the Assembly without commissions; but sufficient testimony was given that they had been chosen Commissioners to this Assembly, and they were received as members, and took their seats accordingly.

The Assembly proceeded to elect a Moderator and Temporary Clerk; and the Rev. John Chester, D. D. was chosen Moderator, and the Rev. Robert Cathcart, D. D. was chosen Temporary Clerk.

The minutes of the last Assembly were read in part.

Dr. Hillyer, the Rev. Messrs. Platt, Glenn, William Latta, Cater, and Post, ministers, and Messrs. Kelley, Doubleday, and Blood, elders, were appointed a Committee of Bills and Overtures, to meet to-morrow morning at 6 o'clock in this church, and afterwards on their own adjournments.

Dr. Blatchford, Mr. Axtell, Dr. Janeway, Messrs. M'Cartee, Van Dyke, and Fine were appointed a judicial committee.

A free conversation on the state of religion, was made the order of the day for Monday next.

Resolved, That the General Assembly and such persons as may choose to unite with them, will spend a part of next Wednesday evening in special prayer for the outpouring of the Spirit on the Churches, and in other religious exercises-and Dr. Ely, Messrs. Cooley and Fitch were appointed a committee to make arrangements for the evening, and to designate persons to lead in the exercises.

A communication from the General Synod of the Reformed Dutch Church, on the subject of a correspondence between the General Assembly and that Synod, was received and committed to Drs. Richards and Janeway, and Mr. John Johnston.

Adjourned to meet in the session room belonging to the First Presbyterian Church in this city, to-morrow morning at 9 o'clock. Concluded with prayer.

May 16, 9 o'clock, A. M. the Assembly met in the session room belonging to the First Presbyterian Church in this city, and was constituted by prayer. The minutes of the last session were read.

The Rev. James Wright, from the Presbytery of Hartford; the Rev. James Graham, from the Presbytery of Redstone; Rev. W. W. Phillips, from the 2nd Presbytery of New-York; Rev. Randolph Stone, from the Presbytery of Grand River; Rev. Ebenezer Leavenworth, from the Pres. bytery of Onondaga; Rev. John Blair Hoge, from the Presbytery of Hanover; Mr. Elias B. Caldwell, ruling elder from the Presbytery of Baltimore; Rev. James Wright, from the Presbytery of Hartford; and Mr. William Wilson, ruling elder from the 2nd Presbytery of New-York, appeared in the Assembly, and their commissions being read, they took their seats as members.

The reading of the minutes of the last Assembly was resumed and finished.

The Stated Clerk reported, that agreeably to order, he had procured the binding of 200 copies of the 4th volume of Printed Extracts, with a copious index, prepared by Rev. Colin M'Iver.

Resolved, That one copy of this volume be presented to each of the Synods, and that the remaining copies of it, and also of the 2nd and 3d volumes be offered for sale at 75 cents per copy.

Notice was given by Dr. Ely of the following appeals, viz. An appeal by Rev. Thomas B. Craighead from a decision of the Synod of Kentucky, an appeal by Rev. Andrew Gwinn from a decision of the Synod of Pittsburgh, an appeal by Mr. Newton Hawes from a decision of the Synod of

Gennessee.

Dr. Ely resigned his seat to Rev. John F. Grier, the principal mentioned in their commission, and Mr. Grier took his seat as a member.

Notice was given of an appeal or complaint signed by Dr. Cathcart and others, members of the Presbytery of Carlisle, against a decision of the Synod of Philadelphia.

Two hundred copies of the Extracts from the Minutes of the General Association of Massachusetts were received, and it was agreed that a copy be given to each member of the Assembly.

Receiving reports from the several Presbyteries on the subject of educating poor and pious youth, was made the order of the day for this after

noon.

Receiving Synodical and Presbyterial reports, was made the order of the day for Tuesday afternoon.

Resolved, That three members of the Board of Missions, regularly convened, be a quorum.

Resolved, That Messrs. Aikin, Rodgers and Maltby, be a committee to examine the records of the Synod of Gennessee.

That Messrs. Wetmore, Parmelee and Van Dyke, be a committee to examine the records of the Synod of Geneva.

That Messrs. Whelpley, William Latta and Cushing, be a committee to examine the records of the Synod of Albany.

That Messrs. Williams, Dr. Janeway and Nassau, be a committee to examine the records of the Synod of New-York and New-Jersey.

That Dr. Caldwell, Messrs. Axtell and Crane, be a committee to examine the records of the Synod of Philadelphia.

That Messrs. Grier, Waterman and Beatty, be a committee to examine the records of the Synod of Virginia.

That Messrs. Wilson, Woodbridge and Morrison, be a committee to examine the records of the Synod of Pittsburgh.

That Messrs. Post, Elliot and Caldwell, be a committee to examine the records of the Synod of Kentucky.
