Bright cherubs His attendants stand, In Zion is His throne, His honours are divine; His Church shall make His wonders known, 4 How holy is His name! How terrible His praise! 5 Exalt the LORD our GOD, PSALM 100. (Old 113.) The Psalmist invites all the world to join with Israel in the praises of JEHOVAH, who is the GOD, not of the Jews only, but of the Gentiles also. ALL nations, join in themes of praise, Serve ye the LORD, your anthems raise; 2 O enter then within His gates, Where praise with grateful homage waits; Eternal mercy crowns His love. Old Version: 1 ALL people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the LORD with cheerful voice; Him serve with fear, His praise forth-tell, Come ye before Him, and rejoice. 2 The LORD, ye know, is God indeed, Without our aid He did us make; We are His flock, He doth us feed, And for His sheep He doth us take, 3 O enter then His gates with praise, Approach with joy His courts unto; 4 For why? the LORD our GOD is good, PSALM 100. III. Metre. 1 BEFORE JEHOVAH's awful throne, (L. M.) Ye nations, bow with sacred joy; Know that the LORD is GOD alone, He can create, and He destroy. 2 His sov'reign power, without our aid, Made us of clay, and form'd us men; And when like wand'ring sheep we stray'd, > He brought us to His fold again. 3 We'll crowd Thy gates with thankful songs, High as the heav'ns our voices raise } And earth with her ten thousand tongues, Firm as a rock Thy truth shall stand, PSALM 101. (L.M.) King David advanced to the throne of Israel, deelares his pious purpose of just and holy government, and the qualifications of his household. 1 MY song shall be of mercy, LORD, Thy judgments shall my soul record; To Thee I'll sing with grateful voice, With conscience clear, and heart upright. This Psalm is entitled, "A Prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed, and poureth out his complaint before the LORD." In the Epistle to the Hebrews, i. 10. the latter part of this Psalm is addressed to MESSIAH, the eternal Son of God. 1 LORD, hear my prayer, incline Thine ear, Hide not Thy face, Thy suppliant hear; Rise and appear for my relief, My spirits faint, assuage my grief. 2 My days, like shadows, swift decline, 3 Rise, mighty GoD, on Sion shine, Let Israel find her long-sought home. 4 So shall the heathen fear Thy name, 5 In ages past Thy hand, O LORD, 6 They all shall fade and pass away, The Psalmist praiseth JEHOVAH for the mercies of redemption; describes in most affecting expressions the frail and transient state of man; and calleth on heaven and earth to praise the everlasting mercy of GOD. 1 MY soul, praise the LORD, bless His holy name, His goodness record, His bounties proclaim; Who crowns Thee with mercies and grace from above, And pardons transgressions with infinite love. 2 JEHOVAH is great, yet deigns to forgive, To anger he's slow; by mercy we live: He will not chide always, His ways He makes known, A just God and SAVIOUR, and mercy His throne. 3 As far as the heav'ns in grandeur are high, 4 The days of our life, how soon are they past! His word ever faithful, and His righteousness, 5 The LORD in the heav'ns prepar'd hath His throne, The sov'reign dominion He claims as His own; Let angels, archangels, accomplish His word, Let all His works praise Him:-my soul, praise the LORD. |
