The President of the United States having returned to the House of Representatives on the 4th instant, the bill, entitled "An act for the preservation and repair of the Cumberland road;" with his objections to the same; the said House proceeded to the re-consideration thereof; and,

Resolved, That the said bill do not pass.

The House of Representatives have passed a resolution for the appointment of a Joint Committee to wait on the President of the United States, and inform him that unless he may have any further communication to make to the two Houses of Congress, they are ready to adjourn; in which resolution they request the concurrence of the Senate. And he withdrew.

Mr. Benton submitted the following motion for consideration, which was read:

Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the legality of the leases of lead mines, made with Benjamin Johnson, and others, of Kentucky; communicated to the Senate in the President's message of May 7th.
