Murphy;""An act granting a tract of land to William Conner and wife, and to their children;" "An act for the relief of the legal representatives of Joseph Hodgson, deceased;" "An act to repeal the 14th section of An act to reduce and fix the military peace establishment,' passed the 2d March, 1821;" also, "An act for the relief of the sureties of Joseph Pettipool."

Ordered, That the Secretary notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

Mr. President: The Speaker of the House of Representatives having signed sundry enrolled bills, I am directed to bring them to the Senate, for the signature of their President.

They have passed the bills which originated in the Senate, entitled "An act to establish an additional land office in the state of Illinois;" "An act to designate the boundaries of a land district, and for the establishment of a land office, in the state of Indiana.”

They have passed the bill, entitled "An act for ascertaining claims and titles to land within the territory of Florida," with amendments, in which they request the concurrence of the Senate.

They have also passed the bill which originated in the Senate, entitled "An act supplementary to the several acts for adjusting the claims to land and establishing land offices in the districts east of the

island of New Orleans," with amendments, in which they request the concurrence of the Senate. And he withdrew.

The Senate proceeded to consider the amendments of the House of Representatives to the bill last mentioned; and,

Resolved, That they concur therein.

Mr. Seymour, from the committee, reported, that they had presented to the President of the United States the enrolled bills last reported to have been examined; and that they had examined and found duly enrolled the following bills: "An act to establish an additional land office in the state of Illinois;" "An act to designate the boundaries of a land district, and for the establishment of a land office, in the state of Indiana;” “An act for ascertaining claims and titles to land within the territory of Florida;” “An act supplementary to the several acts for adjusting the claims to land and establishing land offices in the districts east of the island of New Orleans;" “An act for the relief of Joshua Cannon, Reuben Hickman, and Fielding Hickman;" "An act confirming claims to lots in the town of Mobile, and to land in the former province of West Florida, which claims have been reported favourably on by the commissioners appointed by the United States;" "An act to establish certain post roads, and to discontinue others, and for other purposes."

The President of the United States having returned to the House of Representatives on the 4th instant, the bill, entitled "An act for the preservation and repair of the Cumberland road;" with his objections to the same; the said House proceeded to the re-consideration thereof; and,

Resolved, That the said bill do not pass.

The House of Representatives have passed a resolution for the appointment of a Joint Committee to wait on the President of the United States, and inform him that unless he may have any further communication to make to the two Houses of Congress, they are ready to adjourn; in which resolution they request the concurrence of the Senate. And he withdrew.

Mr. Benton submitted the following motion for consideration, which was read:

Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the legality of the leases of lead mines, made with Benjamin Johnson, and others, of Kentucky; communicated to the Senate in the President's message of May 7th.

Mr. King, from the Committee on Foreign Relations, to whom was referred the message of the President of the United States of May 1st, with the correspondence between the Secretary of State and the Charge d'Affaires of Sweden, made a report, which was read.

Whereupon,

Resolved, That the said Committee be discharged from the further consideration of the message and correspondence referred to them.

Mr. King, from the Committee on Foreign Relations, to whom was referred the message of the President, of the 3d instant, together with the letters of Messrs. Bagot and Canning, concerning the duties on English hammered iron; made a report, which was read.
