Thomas Clarke, of Virginia, to be Collector of direct .xes and internal dutics, for the 13th collection district, in the same State, in the place of Samuel Jones, resigned.

Samuel Haskins, of North Carolina, to be Collector of direct taxes and internal duties, for the 1st collection district, in the same State, in the place of Wills Cowper, resigned.

John A. Jones, of Kentucky, to be Collector of direct taxes and internal duties, for the 8th collection district, in the same State, in the place of Isaac Miller, resigned.

I nominale also Lewis Cass, whose commission as Governor of Michigan Territory will expire on the 11th of February next, to be Governor of said Territory, for three years next ensuing that date.

Charles T. Porter, whose commission as Marshal for the district of East Tennessee will expire on the 12th of February next, to be Marshal of said district, for four years ensuing that date

The following written message was received from the President of the United States, by Mr. Todd, his Secretary:

I withdraw the nomination of Joseph H. Hawkins, as Surveyor of the port of New Orleans, and also Inspector of the Revenue, in the place of Thomas L. Butler, resigned: And I nominate William Emerson for said uflira. JAMES MADISON.

The Senate resumed, as in Committee of the Whole, the consideration of the treaty of friendship and commerce between the United States and the King of Sweden and Norway; and,

Ordered, That the consideration thereof be postponed to, and made the order of the day for, Friday next.

The Senate took into consideration the message of the 16th instant, nominating William Clark, and others, to offices; and

Resolved, That they do advise and consent to the appointments of William Clark, Christopher Hughes, jun. William Plumer, Bathurst Dangerfield, M'Queen M'Intosh, Lemuel Howell, Beverly Chew, Thomas Rutter, Thomas Morris, Samuel Tenant, William Jennings, John A. Jones, Lewis Cass, Charles T. Porter, and Silas Bent, agreeably to the nominations respectively.

The Senate resumed the consideration of the nominations contained in the message of the 16th instant; and

Resolved, That they do advise and consent to the appointments of Denny M'Cobb, William R. Porter, John Nicholson, and Samuel Haskins, agreeaply to the nominations respectively.

Ordered, That the other nominations be postponed.

The Senate took into consideration the message of the 21st instant, withdrawing the nomination of Joseph H. Hawkins, and substituting William Emerson; and

Resolved, That they do advise and consent to the appointment, agreeably to the nomination.

On motion by Mr. Varnum,

Benjamin Parke, of Indiana, to be Judge of the United States for the district of Indiana.

Thomas Blake, of Indiana, to be Attorney of the United States for the district of Indiana.

John Vawter, of Indiana, to be Marshal for the district of Indiana. Stephen Bradley, of Vermont, to be Agent under the fifth article of the treaty of peace and amity between the United States and his Britannic Majesty, signed on the 24th day of December, 1814.

Edward Wyer, of Massachusetts, to be Consul of the United States at Hamburg, in the place of John M. Forbes, resigned.

Henry Wilson, of Maryland, to be Consul at Nantz, in the place of Daniel Strobel, resigned.

Bradley, of the same State, for said office. I nominate Henry Dodge, of Missouri Territory, to be Marshal for the district of Missouri, in the place of A. M'Nair, resigned.

Charles Lucas, of St. Louis, to be Attorney of the United States for the Missouri Territory, in the place of John Scott, resigned.

The Senate took into consideration the message of the 28th instant, nominating Robert Trimble, and others, to offices; and

Resolved, That they do advise and consent to the appointments of Robert Trimble, Edward Wyer, Henry Wilson, Edward Church, and John B. Frazier, agreeably to the nominations respectively.

Ordered, That the other nominations be postponed.

The treaty of friendship and commerce between the United States and the King of Sweden and Norway, was read the second time, and considered as in Committee of the Whole; and,

On motion by Mr. Fromentin,

Ordered, That the consideration thereof be postponed until to-morrow. The Senate resumed the consideration of the message of the 16th January, nominating William Clark, and others, to offices; and

Resolved, That they do adviso and consent to the appointments of John F. Evans, and Joseph Wood, agrecably to the nominations respectively. Ordered, That the nominations of Benjamin Barney, and David Hound, be postponed.

The Senate resumed the consideration of the message of the 28th January, nominating Robert Trimble, and others, to offices; and

Resolved, That they do advise and consent to the appointments of John Q. Sullivan, and Joel Hart, agreeably to the nominations rospectively. Ordered, That the other nominations be postponed.

The Senate took into consideration the message of the 29th January, nomimating Nathaniel Andrews, and others, to Naval appointments; and

Resolved, That they do advise and consent to the appointments of John Ireland, and Ashton Y. Humphreys, agreeably to the nominations respectively.

The Senate resumed, as in Committee of the Whole, the consideration of the treaty of friendship and commerce between the United States and the King of Sweden and Norway; and,
