dent elect of the United States will, on Tuesday next, at 12 o'clock, take the oath of office required by the Constitution, in the chamber of the House of Representatives; and that he also inform the President elect that the Senate will be in session at that time.

Mr. Dana, from the committee to whom was referred so much of the messsge of the President of the United States as relates to weights and measures, reported the following resolution:

Resolved, That it be referred to the Secretary of State, to prepare and report to the Senate a statement relative to the regulation and standard for weights and measures in the several States, and relative to proceedings in foreign countries for establishing uniformity in weights and measures, together with such propositions relative thereto as may be proper to be adopted in the United States.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill authorizing the payment of a sum of money to the State of Georgia, under the articles of agreement and cession between the United States and that State, and no amendment having been made thereto, the President reported it to the House: And,

On the question "Shall this bill be engrossed and read a third time?"

It was determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Tait, from the committee on Naval Affairs, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act to fix the peace establishment of the marine corps," reported it without amendment.

Mr. Ruggles reported from the committee that they had this day laid before the President of the

United States the thirteen enrolled bills last rcported to have been examined.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill to alter the time for the next meeting of Congress, and no amendment having been made thereto, the Presi dent reported it to the House: And,

On the question-" Shall this bill be engrossed and read a third time?”

It was determined in the negative.

Mr. Campbell, from the committee on Finance, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act authorizing the Secretary of the Treasury to pay to the State of Georgia fifteen per cent upon the quota of direct tax for the year 1816, assumed and paid by that State," reported it without amend

ment.

Mr. Campbell, from the same committee, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act to repeal so much of any acts now in force as autho rizes a loan of money, or an issue of Treasury notes," reported it without amendment.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill entitled "An act concerning the compensation of the district attorney for the district of Massachusetts."

Ordered, That the further consideration thereof be postponed until the fourth of March, instant. Ordered, That the Secretary notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

Mr. Campbell, from the committee on Finance, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act transferring the duties of commissioner of loans to the Bank of the United States, and abolishing the office of commissioner of loans," reported it without amendinent; and the bill was considered as in committee of the whole, and having been amended, the President reported it to the House according.
