PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

COMMUNICATING

In answer to a resolution of the 7th instant, a report of the Secretary of

State, with correspondence and documents connected with the treaty concluded at London between the United States and Great Britain, the 7th (17th day of October, 1856.

To the Senate of the United States :

I transmit a report from the Secretary of State, with accompanying papers, in answer to the resolution of the Senate of the 7th instant.

Washington, January 12, 1857. The Secretary of State, to whom was referred the resolution of the Senate of the 7th instant, requesting the President, if in his opinion not incompatible with the public interest, to communicate to that body, in executive session, "copies of the correspondence and documents connected with the treaty concluded at London, between the United States and Great Britain, on the 7th (17th day of October, 1856, and communicated to the Senate with his message of the 10th of December, 1856,” has the honor to lay before the President the accompanying papers. All of which is respectfully submitted.
