E have the Honour, Sire, to prefent to your Majesty our Letter of Credence from their High Mightineffes the States-General of the United Provinces, our Lords and Mafters. Your Majefty will fee, by its Contents, how ardently their High Mightineffes defire to cultivate the fincere Friendship which hath fo long fubfifted between the two Nations, and which is fo neceffary to their common Welfare. May we be happy enough, pursuant to our Mafters commands, to remove thofe Difficulties which have for fome Time paft diminished this Friendship, and caused fo much Preju. dice to the principal Subjects of the Republic, who, by the Trade they carry on, are its greatest Strength, and chief Support.

We place our whole Confidence in your Majesty's Equity, for which the Republic hath the higheft Regard; and in the Goodwill your Majesty hath always expreffed towards a State, which on all Occafions hath interested itself in promoting your Glory, and which is the Guardian of the precious Truft left by a Princefs fo dear to your Majefty.

Full of this Confidence, we presume to

Utrecht, May 17. Letters from Franconia import, that on the 8th Inft, the Pruffans attacked Gen. Maguire, and forced him to retreat towards Egra; that they made themselves Mafters of Cronach two Days after; and that Prince Ferdinand of Brunfwick, in Conjunction with Prince Henry of Pruffia, was preparing to fall upon the Army of the Empire immediately.

P. S. Advice is just come to Hand, that Prince Henry of Pruffia, attacked the Army of the Empire the 7th Inft. between Culmbach and Cronach, and that, after a bloody Engagement, they abandoned to the Pruffians their camp. baggage, and artillery; and that the Victory is complete and decifive, and that feveral Thousands of the Enemy are made Prifoners. A detail of this Event is hourly expected. Utrecht Gaz.

Hague, May 18. By the laft Letters from the Allied Army, their Position still continues at Munster and Ziegenhayn. The French, on their Side, have made no Appearance of attempting any Thing; it is faid, that they are fortifying the Suburb of Frankfort (Saxenhaufen) as ftrong as they can. By our laft Advices from the Lower Rhine, the Head Quarters of M. de Contades were at Duffeldorp, where the French had begun to form a Camp, as likewife in the Neighbourhood of Wefel: We hear that their Camp at Burick is alfo formed.

French Papers, fewed up in Canvas, and laid in the midst of the Coffee, relative to Part of the faid Veffel's Cargo, which it.abfolutely proves to be French Property, and to the dutchified French Cargoes of many other Dutch Veffels; and opens a most furprifing Scene of Villainy. More Papers are expected to be found fecreted in the fame Manner. We must not here omit to remark, that a folemn Affidavit has been lately tranfmitted hither from St. Euftatia, annexed to an Invoice of every Article of the Vrouw Aletta's Cargo, of the Whole being no other than Dutch Property, by the covering Shippers of the Goods.

New York, April 16. Our Accounts from Philadelphia are, that about 25 Days fince, Col. Mercer, of the Virginia Provincials, with 100 Highlanders, 200 Royal Americans and Virginians and about 50 Indians, were marched with 2 Mortars and I Haubitzer, to attack a French Fort called Wenango, diftant about 80 Miles N. from Pittsburgh, formerly Fort Duquesne, on the River Ohio and from the Intelligence of a French Prisoner, lately taken near that Fort by one of our fcouting Parties, we have Reafon to believe Col. Mercer will fucceed.

Sir William Johnston is gone up to the Upper Mohawk Caftle at Cauajohary, to hold a Congrefs with the five Nations of

Indians, where a great Number of them are expected to meet, and there is a Profpect of Sir William's carrying a large Body of them into the Field next Campaign.

March 19. The Juno, and ten Sail more, from Cape François, richly laden, are taken by the King of Pruffia and three other Privateers belonging to this Port, and brought in here. It is faid one of the Ships is entirely loaded with Indigo, and that the whole Capture is worth fome Hundred Thousand Pounds.

We hear from Philadelphia, that on the 11th of March died there, of a tedious Illnefs, John Forbes, Efq; in the 49th Year of his Age, Son to Forbes, of Pentencrief, Efq; in the Shire of Fife in Scotland, Brigadier general, Col. of the 17th Regiment of Foot, and Commander of his Majefty's Troops in the fouthern Provinces of North America.

Friday fe'nnight the General Assembly of the Province of New Jersey came to a Refolution to raise 1000 Men, to act in Conjunction with his Majefty's regular Forces the ensuing Campaign; that the said Number of Men shall consist of Volunteers only; and that, for an Encouragement to the said Volunteers to enter, there shall be allowed. a Bounty of 12 1. to each.

"Saturday the Proferpine and Pluto Firefhips failed from Spithead to join Admiral Hawke.

We hear the Admiral is to be joined by Ic Ships of the Line from Plymouth.

We daily expect the St. George and Berwick from Guardaloupe.

The Hercules is foon to join Admiral Hawke.

Our Fleet begins to grow again at Spit

The Gramont Frigate, Capt. Affleck, and Bafilifk Bomb, Capt. Clark, will fail today with a Convoy for Gibraltar, to join Admiral Bofcawen.

24. This Day his Majefty and the Royal Family went from St. James's to Kenfing. ton, to refide there for the Summer Seafon.

26. Being the Birthday of his Royal Highness the Duke, who then entered into the 39th Year of his Age, his Majesty received the Compliments of the Nobility on that Occafion.

The Sandwich Man of War was put in Commiffion and the Command of her given to Captain Specke.

Lord Chamberlain's Office, May 5. Orders for the Court's further Change of Mourning, on Sunday the 13th Inftant, for her late Royal Highnefs the Princess Dowager of Orange, viz.

The Ladies to wear black Silk or Velvet, coloured Ribbons, -Fans, and Tippets :

The Men to continue in Black full trimmed, and to wear coloured Swords and Buckles.

Great Preparations are making in the Beau Monde against the Birth-day of his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, the 4th of June next, when that Prince comes of Age.

Whitehall, May 12. The King has been pleased to constitute and appoint the Hon. John Barrington, to be General and Commander in chief of his Majesty's Forces, late under the Command of Major-general Hopfon, deceased.

His Grace the Duke of Bedford, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, hath ordered all fuch Officers of his Majefty's Forces upon the Establishment of Ireland as are abfent, and not on the recruiting Service, to repair immediately to their refpective Pofts in that Kingdom.

15. A Proclamation was iffued, promifing a Bounty of five Pounds for every able Seaman, and thirty Shillings for every ordinary Seaman, not above 50, nor under 20 Years of Age, who thall voluntarily enter themselves, on, or before the 3d of July next, to ferve in the Royal Navy.

a Bounty of thirty Shillings to every ablebodied Landman, not above 35, nor under 20 Years of Age, who shall voluntarily enter within the fame Time to ferve on board the Navy ; and also a Reward of two Pounds for the Discovery of every able, and twenty Shillings for every ordinary Seaman, that

fhall have fecreted themfelves. And, as a farther Encouragement, his Majefty promifes his moft gracious Pardon to all Seamen that have deferted from their Ships, provided they return to the Service by the faid 3d Day of July, in which Cafe they fhall not be profecuted for their Difertion but that, on the contrary, thofe who do not return before that Time on board fome of his Majefty's Ships of War, or who shall hereafter abfent themselves without Leave, fhall be tried by a Court Martial; and being found guilty of deferting at this Time, when their Country fo much wants their Service, fhall be deemed unfit Objects of the Royal Mercy, and fuffer Death according to Law. 17 One Hundred Horfes were sent from London to remount the Cavalry in Ger

22. Letters received from Germany are filled with the Advantages gained by the Pruffians over the Army of the Empire, and with the vigorous Measures taken by Prince Henry, in Concert with Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick, to furround that Army more effectually, and to extend their Contributions into the Heart of Franconia.

We hear that rooooool. will be granted for the Purposes expreffed, in the following Meffage from his Majesty, which was prefented to the Houfe by Mr. Secretary Pitt. GEORGE R.

His Majefty, relying on the experienced Zeal and Affection of his faithful Commons, and confidering, that in this critical Conjuncture, Emergencies may arife, which may be of the utmost Importance, and be attended with the most pernicious Confequences, if proper Means should not im

24. A great Number of Baggage Waggons fet out for the Ifle of Wight, for the Ufe of the Forces to be encamp'd there.

The fame Day, came on at the Cockpit, the Trial on Appeal of another Dutch Ship, called the Novum Aratum, which was determined in favour of the Captors.

It is ordered, that all the Troops in England, Scotland and Ireland, are to be cantoned near the Sea Coaft.

Advices from feveral Parts of France mention the great Preparations that are making for a Defcent on the English Coast, viz. from Dunkirk of the 19th Inftant, that Orders came the 17th from the French Court, to work extraordinary Hours on the flatbottom'd Boats, Pontoons, &c. to get them ready with all Speed; and that the Bellifle Frigate of 40 Guns, Le Begon of 36, and La Terpsichore of 24 Guns, and a 70 Gun Ship lately arrived from Breft, are ordered to be equipped with all Diligence in order to take the faid Boats on board.

We hear that an annual Addition of 500l. will be made to the Salaries of each of the Puifne Judges in the Court of King's Bench, each of the Judges of the Court of Common-Pleas at Westminster, and each of the Barons of the Court of Exchequer at Weftminfter, except the Chief Baron, whofe SaJary will be augmented to 10col. That the Salaries of the Prefident of the Court of Seffion, and the Chief Baron of the Court of Exchequer, in Scotland, will be augmented 300l. and that of each of the other Judges of the faid Courts, 200l. That the Salary of the Chief Juftice of Chefter will be augmented 2001. thofe of the Second Juftice of Chester, and each of the Justices of the Great Seffions for the Counties in Wales, 150l.

By Accounts received from the French Army under M. de Broglio, we are informed, that feveral Battalions which had fuffered greatly in the late Action at Bergen, had received Orders to leave that Army; fo that it is thought they will go into Garrison, or return to France.
