TO PREVENT RIOTS IN THE STREETS, &c.

The People of the City of San Francisco do ordain as follows:

No person shall be guilty of any riotous, disorderly or violent conduct, in any street, house or place, whereby the peace or quiet of the city may be disturbed, under the penalty of fine and imprisonment at the discretion of the recorder.

TO STAY PROCEEDINGS ON A JUDGMENT AGAINST THE CITY.

Be it ordained by the People of San Francisco:

That his honor the mayor be authorised to execute such undertakings on the part of the city as may be necessary to procure a stay of proceedings on the judgment rendered against the

fate Ayuntamiento, and also to procure the necessary sureties in

such undertakings.

IN RELATION TO ESTABLISHING A CITY HOSPITAL.

Be it ordained by the People of the City of San Francisco:

That a City Hospital be and is hereby established, and that the city treasurer be and is hereby authorised to receive any fines that may be coming to said hospital.

TO PREVENT NUISANCES IN THE CITY.

The People of the City of San Francisco do ordain as follows:

That no person or persons shall prosecute any business or trade within the corporate limits of this city which may be a nuisance by the common law, unless by special permission of the recorder in such cases where the business will effect no person in the legitimate enjoyment of his property. The street commissioner shall upon a knowledge of a violation of this ordinance order the abatement of the same, and if said nuisance is not removed within a reasonable time by the party or parties offending he shall institute proceedings in the name of the People of the City of San Francisco before the recorder, who shall have power to fine the offending party or parties in any sum not exceeding two hundred dollars upon conviction thereof. Each day that said nuisance shall continue after reasonable time to abate the same, after judgment, shall be deemed a separate offence and subject the party or parties to like penalty.

IN RELATION TO RESERVOIRS, WELLS, ENGINES AND ENGINE HOUSES.

Be it ordained by the People of the City of San Francisco:

SECT. 1. That the mayor of this city be and his hereby authorised to advertise in three daily papers of this city for three days for proposals for building a reservoir in Portsmouth Square, one at the corner of California and Montgomery Streets, and one on Pacific Street near Dupont, not to exceed twenty thousand gallons each, said reservoirs to be built of brick and cement, and to be enclosed. Also one to contain ten thousand gallons in Washington below Montgomery Street.

SECT. 2. That the mayor be and is hereby authorised to issue proposals in the same manner as prescribed in section first, for digging an artesian well in Portsmouth Square, and one in Pacific Street near Dupont, sufficient to supply a reservoir of twenty thousand gallons each.

SECT. 3. That the mayor is hereby authorised as prescribed in section first to advertise for proposals for building not less than three, nor more than six houses suitable for the protection of the fire engines belonging to the city, and that he is hereby authorised to lease for the term of one year for the city appropriate lots for the same.

SECT. 4. That the mayor be and his hereby authorised to purchase not more than three fire engines for the use of the city.

SECT. 5. That no contract shall be made by the mayor under this ordinance wiithout the approval of the committee on the fire and water department, and that all contracts shall be given to the lowest responsible bidder; all proposals to be opened in presence of the mayor and committee on the fire and water department on the fourth day from the publication of this ordinance; and that said committee, with the approval of the mayor, be and are hereby authorised to contract for said wells,
