INDIAN SCHOOLS. The advance in Indian school work during the year 1895 is encouraging, as shown by a resume of the work for the year 1895 and for the four years previous, as follows: In addition to the government schools in operation numerous contract schools are included in the first table. The amount of money set apart for these institutions for the year ending June 30, 1896, as well as in preceding years, is shown by the following table: *This contract was made in 1892 with the Board of Home Missions of the Methodist Episcopal church. As that organization did not wish to make any contracts for 1893 the contract was renewed with Mrs. Daggett. SALES OF MALT LIQUORS---1889-95. The Brewers' Journal for November publishes the following statistics, compiled from the report of the Commissioner of Internal Revenue, of the sales of malt liquors in the various states and territories and in the leading cities of the country for the year 1895, as compared with the six preceding years. The states showing largest increase are California, Connecticut, Kentucky, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. The six states in which there has been the largest decrease are Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri and New York.
