PREFACE.

ALTHOUGH the present book is a natural sequel to Liber Secundus, yet it is complete in itself, and may be used as a first book for pupils who have a grammatical knowledge of English. As the last of the Retranslation series, it leads the pupil through selections of the Standard Authors generally read,* and contains, instead of parsing and only partial construction lessons, as found in Liber Secundus, complete Construction, with a rule of Syntax quoted and applied to every word parsed.

The author feels gratified at the reception of his First Lessons and Liber Secundus, and has endeavoured to make this book, on the same plan, an introduction to the best authors, and the rules of construction adopted by them, that the learner may be well prepared to study any Subject prescribed for Examination.
