The laft Additional Duty on Stamps

HAVING

AVING taken place about the middle of the Season, 1797, the Proprietors of the Racing Calendar did not think it advisable to make any Advance in the price of Subfcription for that year, confequently have borne the entire Burden themselves.

The Regulation they now propose to adopt, will only in part relieve them, but is fuch as for the present they are refolved to be fatisfied with-it is merely to equalife the Subscription, by allowing in future, no exception whatever to the charge of a Guinea per Annum, which to a large majority of their Subscribers will be no Advance at all.

The Proprietors take this opportunity of foliciting a more prompt and regular payment of the Subfcription Money, than has been customary with fome of their Subfcribers. The great increase in the price of Stamps, which must be paid for before they are made use of, renders an alteration in this refpect highly neceffary.

IN Confequence of the many fatal Accidents which

have happened by Horfes running too near the Posts, the Stewards of Newmarket Races have caufed the large and fixed Pofts on the Heath, to be furrounded with Turf Banks, about Five Feet in the Base, and floping to the Poft, at the Height of about Four Feet; and in other Parts of the Course, particularly where there are Turns, they have adopted the Use of Лlender Pofts that will break on any strong Preffure, which they earnestly recommend to the Notice of Stewards, and Managers of Races in general.

SUBSCRIPTIONS, Advertisements, and Intelli

gence for the Racing Calendar, are received and carefully attended to, at the Publifhers' Office, No. 7, Oxenden-Street, near the Hay-Market; where may be had, moft of the Volumes from the Year 1727, to the prefent.

The Volume for 1797, (price tos. 6d.) is fold by Mr. E. W. Rhodes, York; Mr. Deardin, No. 19, Piccadilly, Manchester; Meffrs. Wright and Ormandy, Bookfellers, Liverpool; and at the Coffee - houfe, Newmarket.
