PREFACE.

In presenting to the readers of the PROTESTANT MAGAZINE its First Volume, the Commmittee of the Protestant Association beg to record their thankfulness to God for the measure of success it has met, and the degree of usefulness of which it has been the instrument. They have reason to hope that fresh success and further usefulness will be achieved by future numbers, and by former ones now bound up together.

They undertook the work from a sense of duty, and have willingly made the necessary sacrifices to continue it. But they think it right to state that much of the risk and burden falls on the Publisher, who with great zeal and perseverance has long aided very powerfully in the Protestant cause. On his account, therefore, they beg leave to recommend this volume, trusting that in itself it will be found beneficial, and by the guidance and blessing of God, may spread some useful information, on subjects of the greatest interest and importance to the British Empire.
