Mr. Ogle presented a petition of Benjamin Wells and John' Webster, collectors of internal duties, in the state of Pennsylvania, in the year 1791, praying to be allowed their proportion of the fines and penalties incurred by certain persons in their districts, for violations of the acts imposing the said duties. Mr. Ogle also presented another petition of Benjamin Wells, a collector of internal duties in the year 1795, praying to be allowed, in the settlement of his accounts, the sum of 595 dollars, transmitted by mail to the supervisor of the state of Pennsylvania, under orders from said supervisor, and which never came to hand, as also some compensation for his attendance as a witness, on behalf of the United States, at several courts held in the city of Philadelphia, and for a reimbursement of costs and expenses which he incurred in defending a suit, brought by the United States against him for moneys, which, in the issue of the case, it appeared, he did not owe; that he may be also allowed for moneys paid to the inspector and not credited to him, as well as for various extra expenses incurred in the discharge of his duty, and under orders from his superior officers; and finally, that he may be allowed interest on whatever sum may be found due to him.
