Funding was initially provided in fiscal year 1994 to accommodate replacement of the metal roof on the Thomas Jefferson Building. The existing roof has deteriorated due to acid rain and time factors. Temporary repairs were made to stop roof leaks which could cause considerable destruction of interior finishes presently being restored by the Jefferson Renovation and Restoration project. The estimated completion date is in fiscal year 1997. The award of a contract was scheduled for November 1995, with an estimated completion period of 24 months.

Tenant Improvements to the Special Facilities Center

Funding was provided in fiscal year 1992 for repairs, cleaning and security of the Facility. The ground floor level was
assigned for child day care which also included playground facilities. The initial child care center work has been completed.
Hill Wide EMCS, JMMB

Funding was initially provided in fiscal year 1994 to replace the existing EMCS which employs 1970's technology and
therefore obsolete and no longer supported by any manufacturer. The system is necessary for operation, control and monitoring
of the Madison Building's environmental systems. This work is estimated to be complete in fiscal year 1997.

Replace Roof, TJB

Photoduplication Relocation, JAB

Funding was initially provided in fiscal year 1994 to improve refurbished space for the Photoduplication Division in the
John Adams Building. The scope of work included removal of asbestos containing materials, replacement of deteriorated floor
drains, ceiling systems, flooring, lighting and interior finishes. The estimated completion date for this work is August 1996.

Replace Electronic Book Conveyor System, Design

Funding was initially provided in fiscal year 1995 to contract for design services for the replacement of the computerized control system for the Library of Congress book conveyor system. The design will incorporate three existing systems into a single control system for the three major Buildings. The design consultant will be retained for purpose of oversight until completion of the replacement construction project, which has been funded and is scheduled to be completed in fiscal year 1998.

10.10

Funding was initially provided in fiscal year 1984 for renovating and resorting the Jefferson and Adams Buildings. The majority of this work is now complete. The Library is preparing layout plans for accomplishing the final office moves. Construct Book Storage Facility, Ft. Meade

Funding was initially provided in fiscal year 94 to address the Library's need for expanded collections storage space. After review of various alternative sites, Fort Meade was selected to construct a facility that will provide secure, high-tech storage and retrieval methods and environmentally acceptable space. The project is currently addressing the need for an Associate Architect to provide design and specifications necessary for a construction contract. The estimated completion date for this project is fiscal year 1999.

Funding for this project was initially provided in fiscal year 1996. The budget is based on design provided with funds appropriated in fiscal year 1995. The project will replace the existing computerized control equipment which uses 1970's technology, is obsolete and cannot be repaired as well as manual, mechanical systems dating to the 1930's. The replacement equipment will eliminate current concerns and further address and improve security of collections, quantity and speed of collections processing, dependability and ability to analyze system operations. The contract is scheduled to be completed in fiscal year 1998.
