We have it from authority, that oatmeal fell in the market of Granard, on Monday fe'nnight, from 50s. to 30s. per cwt. and several tons remained unfold.

From experiments lately made, the maize or Indian corn meal is found to be much more productive than wheaten or oatmeal; feven pounds of fuch meal or flour will take more than double the quantity of water to knead it into dough, and when baked on the griddle will produce above nine pounds and a half of bread properly exficcated whereas wheaten flour and meal, of the fame compliment, will fcarcely produce eight pounds and a half. A quart of Indian meal will produce firabout of equal confiftence of nearly three pints of oatmeal. In its nature, it is dry as rice, and therefore proves fo very yielding and beneficial, and is much fought after by the lower orders of the people in these times of dif

LONGEVITY AND HEALTH. There is now in the town of Clonmel, a man of the name of Sheedy, who, from every reasonable calculation, can want little of being 100 years of age. has three times cut full grown timber of his own planting, and can now be feen refting under the shade of the fourth planting.-His wife has been more than ten years bed-ridden, and has no other attendant than himfelf; his memory is tenacious, all the faculties of sense unimpaired, and he walks erect, and apparently as ftrong as at the age of forty. It is to be remarked that this man has always a ftong averfion to ftrong liquors.

As going in his carriage late, down the fouth wall on the preceding evening, a man ran toward the fervant behind, whom the latter apprehended to be a robber, whom he fired upon and unfortunately killed; on examination he appeared to be one of the privates of the artillery, on duty at the Pigeon-house, fervant to an officer who was returning there-and his object in following the carriage was to get a lift to where he was going.

When the general heard the particulars of the lamentable event, he gave a fum of money for the family of the deceafed, upon whole body an inqueft was yesterday held by the coroner, alderman Vance.
