which our Periodical Mifcellany has hitherto been honoured, we return, with equal Pleasure and Sincerity, the most grateful Acknowledgements to all our Readers. A confirmed Experience of the Public Attachment induces us to hope with Confidence, that every future, like every paft Year, will continue to afford us fresh Demonftration of the fame pleafing and animating Partiality. While other Productions, of a fimilar, but unequal kind, are doomed to languish in a faint and precarious Existence, it is the peculiar Fortune of the LADY'S MAGAZINE to flourish with increafing Celebrity.

THE LADY'S MAGAZINE, by uniting the Precepts o Wisdom with Examples of Virtue, habituates the Mind to the Contemplation and Love of Moral Rectitude, and contains in its various Compofition fuch a Mixture of important Truths, improving Sentiments, and useful or entertaining Information, as render it no lefs adapted to Perufal in the more uniform Trafts of Life than in its greatest Viciffitudes. What has been long fince faid of Philofophy, may be applied with Juftice to this Treasure of Literary Enjoyment, "It is an Ornament in Prof"perity, a Solace in Adverfity, and a fuitable Compa"nion in the Hours either of focial Communication or "Retirement." Its Utility in all Situations, particularly in delineating the Duties and amiable Qualities, in
