The RIDICULOUS MATCH, with a Copper-Plate annexed. Saturday the 2d of July, was married at Horn-Church, Thomas Feeble, Efq; aged 90, to Mifs Frisky, aged 16; after which they fet out for Feeble-Hall, to attempt to confummate the nuptials. Daily Adv. Wednesday the 29th of June lord Cathcart and the hon. Sir Jofeph Yorke were fworn in members of his majesty's most hon. privy council, and took their feats at the board accordingly.

An exprefs arrived in town on Wednesday from Paris, which, we are informed, brought an account of the death of the queen of France, confort of Lewis XV. and daughter of the late Stanislaus, king of Poland. Her majefty was born June 23, 1703, and has left the following iffue by the prefent French king, viz. Elizabeth, dowager dutchefs of Parma, princefs Adelaide, princefs Victoria, and two other princeffes.

We are told, that a bill is preparing for parliament, to abolish the cruel cuftom of farming out the parish poor, whofe fufferings, when they fall into mercenary hands, are inexpreffible.

Candles are now 75. 8d. per dozen, yet the price of fat, the coft of making, and the duty, do not amount to quite five fhillings.-An enormous profit in fuch an article.

We have received the further fol

lowing particulars of an article from Leeds in Yorkshire, concerning four men having been ftruck down with lightening at Slingby barn, two of whom were killed, viz. that there were feven men, fix of whom were truck down, and the seventh made to ftagger. Mr. Cleaver, fen. and Mr. Mafon, received no damage, but one Dinely was very much hurt, and one Beal only a little. Matthew Fryar was the only perfon that did not fall.

The manner in which George Chapman (whofe death has been already mentioned) was ftruck is remarkable, there being a finall round hole in his hat, but no wound in his head, only the hair on it and his breaft were finged. It is fuppofed the lightening went quite through his body, as there was another small hole in the foot of each of his ftockings and boot heels. His left fide and leg were greatly fcorched, and the ftocking much finged.

There is now living at Alchester in Worcestershire one George Moore, a fhoemaker, aged 110, whofe wife is in her 100th year.

Extract of a letter from Cambridge,

June 29.

J bachelors "On Tuesday lait an elegant Latin letter, drawn up by the orator, was fent, by order of the fenate, to the hon. Mr. Charles Yorke, to thank him for his great and important fervices to the univerfity, particularly for having formerly pleaded our caufe fo fuccefsfully, as to establish our privilege of printing books in law, and all other faculties; and having just now proved an effectual advocate for us in the great Downing caufe, whereby an eftate of four thousand pounds a year is fecured to the univerfity, for building and endowing a new college; and for the many other fignal proofs he has frequently given of his zeal and attachment to the intereft of this univerfity.

It is reported, that at a late conference the French ambaffador, the count de Chatelet, had with the earl of Shelburne, fecretary of ftate for the fouthern department, the count obferved, that the king of France, in fending fo many troops to Corfica, did no more than his duty in affitting his ally, the republic of Genoa, against their rebel fubjects. Lord Shelburne replied, "We do not confider the Corficans as rebels," "Your proclamations tile them fo," anfwered the count.

Saturday, 2. The French ambaffador's departure was fixed for laft week; but, by reafon of the death of the queen of France, it is, we hear, put off till this it is affured he will not return here again, but occupy fome great poft in the French miniftry. The report ftill continues, that the baron de Breteuil will fucceed him at this court.

From the LONDON GAZETTE. St. James's, June 29.

This day the right honourable Charles Shaw, lord Cathcart, and Sir Jofeph Yorke, knight of the Bath, were, by his majesty's command, fworn of his majefty's most honourable privy council, and took their refpective places at the board accordingly.

Stockholm, June 10. The king of Sweden is perfectly recovered of the bruises he received by his fall; public thanks are ordered to be returned in all the churches of this city, and 9000 dollars to be given to the perfon who ftopt the horses. The court is gone into mourning for a month, on the death of her late royal highnefs the princefs Louifa Anne, the king of Great-Britain's fifter.

The king has been pleafed to order letters patent to be paffed under the great feal of the kingdom of Ireland, containing a grant unto Dudley Alexander Sydney Crosby, efq; of Stradbally-Hall in the queen's county, and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten, of the dignity of of the faid kingdom, by the name, ftile, and title of lord Sydney of Leix, baron of Stradbally in the faid county.

The king has been pleased to order like letters patent, containing a grant unto John Eyre, of Eyrecourt, in the county of Galway, efq; and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten, of the dignity of a baron of the faid kingdom, by the name, ftile, and title of baron Eyre, of Eyre-court, in the faid county of Galway.

The king has been pleafed to grant unto John Thomas, doctor of law, and one of his majesty's chaplains in ordinary, the deanry of the collegiate church of St. Peter, Westminster, void by the refignation of the right reverend father in God, Dr. Zachary Pearce, bishop of Rochefter, late dean thereof.

Monday, 4. Friday their ferene highneffes the two princes of Saxe Gotha, nephews to her royal highnefs the princefs dowager of Wales, paid a vifit to their aunt, her royal highness the princefs Amelia, at her houfe in Cavendish-fquare.

The hon. Richard Rigby, efq; whose feat was vacated in parliament for Tavistock, in the county of Devon, is re-elected for the faid borough without oppofition. Extract of a Letter from Genoa, June 4. "The treaty concluded between our republick and the court of Verfailles, for the ceffion of the island of Corfica, is just made public, and contains the following articles.

I. The republick of Genoa cedes the kingdom of Corfica, including its fortreffes, to France, who is to pay for the artillery and ammunition found therein, according to the eftimation which fhall be made.

II. The fovereignty of that ifland fhall ftill appertain to the republick. III. All private property fhall be inviolably maintained.

IV. The Corficans fhall be accounted fubjects of France, during the time that fhe fhall poffefs that ifland.

V. France fhall be under an obligation to keep fixteen battalions in the island.

VI. France guaranties the Genoefe commerce against the Corficans or Barbarians.

VII. In cafe the republick fhould be defirous of re-taking poffeffion

of that kingdom, fhe must restore to France all the expences which that crown fhall have incurred in this affair, for which purpose an exact account is to be kept of all the money advanced, as well as of the revenues collected.

VIII. France engages to leave the poffeffion and fovereignty of the ifland of Capraja to the republick.

"Befides thefe articles, there are three others, which are kept very fecret by the two governments."

Friday night laft about ten o'clock, in the great form of thunder and lightening, a waiter at the Barleymow in Thames-street, near Paul's Wharf, was ftruck blind with the lightening, as he was carrying a pot of beer out, and now continues raving mad.

Friday a ftone-mafon was tried before the bench of juftices at Guildhall, Westminster, upon an indictment brought against him by a methodift preacher, for difturbing him and his congregation fome time ago in Lambeth, in a riotous and outrageous manner; after a full hearing of the matter, both parties were obliged to fit down contented with paying their own cofts.

Tuesday, 5. The right hon. Dudley Alexan. Sydney Cofby, created baron of Stradbally, was member in the late Irish parliament for the borough of Carrick: Abraham Creighton, created baron Erne, was member for the borough of Lifford; and John Eyre created baron Eyre, was member for the town of Galway.

We are informed from Northwalfham, in Norfolk, that on Monday laft Mr. Robertfon, of that town, fellmonger, tied a horfe very near a bee-hive; the horfe feeding too close to it, feveral of the bees ftung him, which fet the horse a kicking, and he fpurned down the hive; the bees immediately gathered round the horfe's head, and ftung him to that
