6 Thy feet, dear SAVIOUR! we'll embrace, (The kindling wrath Thy love restrains) Trust in the smiles of JESU's face, While o'er the world MESSIAH reigns.

Psalm III.

A Morning Psalm.

10 LORD! how many are my foes, In this weak state of flesh and blood! My peace they daily discompose,

But my defence and hope is GOD. 2 Tir'd with the burdens of the day, To Thee I rais'd my ev'ning cry; Thou heard'st when I began to pray, And Thine Almighty help was nigh. 3 Supported by Thine heav'nly aid,

I laid me down, and slept secure : Not death shall make my heart afraid, Though I should wake and rise no more. 4 But GOD sustain'd me all the night; Salvation doth to GOD belong: He rais'd my head to see the light, And made His praise my morning song. Psalm IV.

An Evening Psalm.

1 To what rich and heav'nly stores
Doth the LORD His people lead!
Hence my soul, with faith, implores
All the good I daily need:
On my bed, my heart prepare,
Bless with sweet communion there.

2 With the day's new mercies crown'd,
Bid this night Thy face to shine!
Then, though worldlings may be found
Who for earthly comforts pine,—
Thou more gladness wilt bestow
Than when earthly blessings flow.

3 LORD! on me the gracious beams
Of Thy heav'nly presence shed!
Then, at rest from frightful dreams,
Sweet repose shall soothe my bed.
Now these blessings, LORD! dispense;
Thou, alone, art my defence.

Psalm V.

For the Morning of the Sabbath.

1 LORD, in the morning Thou shalt hear
My voice ascending high;
To Thee will I direct my pray❜r,
To Thee lift up mine eye;

2 Up to the hills where CHRIST is gone
To plead for all His saints,
Presenting at His Father's throne
Our songs and our complaints.

3 Thou art a GOD before whose sight
The wicked shall not stand;

Sinners shall ne'er be Thy delight,
Nor dwell at Thy right hand.

4 But to Thy house will I resort,
To taste Thy mercies there;
I will frequent Thine holy court,
And worship in Thy fear.

5 may Thy SPIRIT guide my feet
In ways of righteousness!
Make ev'ry path of duty straight,
And plain before my face.

Psalm VI.

Pleading for Mercy.-On Despair.

i IN mercy, not in wrath, rebuke
Thy feeble worm, my God!
My spirit dreads Thy angry look,
And trembles at Thy rod.

2 Have mercy, LORD, for I am weak;
Regard my heavy groans;

O let Thy voice of comfort speak,
And heal my broken bones!

3 By day, my busy beating head
Is fill'd with anxious fears;
By night, upon my restless bed,
I weep a flood of tears.

4 Thus I sit desolate and mourn,

Mine eyes grow dull with grief; How long, my LORD, ere Thou return, And bring my soul relief?

5 Satan, my cruel, envious foe,
Insults me in my pain;

He smiles to see me brought so low,
And tells me-hope is vain.

6 But hence, thou enemy, depart!
Nor tempt me to despair;

My Saviour comes to cheer my heart,
The LORD has heard my prayer.

Psalm VIII.

The Creator's glory. The Saviour's condescension.

1 THOU, to whom all creatures bow
Within this earthly frame,

Through all the world how great art Thou!
How glorious is Thy Name!

2 When I behold Thy works on high,
The moon that rules the night,
And stars that well adorn the sky,
Those moving worlds of light;

3 LORD, what is man, or all his race,
Who dwells so far below,

That Thou should'st visit him with grace, And love his nature so?

4 That Thine eternal Son should bear
To take a mortal form,
Made lower than His angels are,
To save a dying worm?

5 Let Him be crown'd with majesty
Who bow'd His head to death;
And be His honours sounded high
By all things that have breath.

5 JESUS, our LORD, how wondrous great Is Thine exalted name!

The glories of thy heav'nly state

Let the whole earth proclaim!

Psalm IX.

Praise.-God a Refuge to believers.

1 To celebrate Thy praise, O LORD,
I will my heart prepare;

To all the list'ning world Thy works,
Thy wondrous works, declare.

2 The thought of them shall to my soul
Exalted pleasure bring;

Whilst to Thy Name, O Thou most High! Triumphant praise I sing.

3 GOD is a constant, sure defence,
Against oppressing rage:

As troubles rise, His needful aids
In our behalf engage.

4 All those who have His goodness prov'd,
Will in His truth confide;
Whose mercy ne'er forsook the man
That on His help rely'd.

5 Sing praises therefore to the LORD;
From Sion, His abode,

Proclaim His deeds, till all the world
Confess no other GOD.

Psalm XI.

The awful Portion of the wicked.

1 THE LORD hath both a temple here,
And righteous throne above,

Whence He surveys the sons of men,
And how their counsels move.
