Hymn.

Conversion of the Jews.

ALMIGHTY GOD of love,
Set up th' attracting sign,

And summon whom Thou dost approve
For messengers divine:

From favour'd Abraham's seed
The new Apostles choose,
In isles and continents to spread
The dead-reviving news.

O that the chosen band

Might now their brethren bring!
And gather'd out of every land,
Present to Sion's King!

Of all the ancient race

Not one be left behind,

But each, impell'd by secret grace,
His way to Canaan find.

We know it must be done,

For GOD hath spoke the word;

All Israel shall the SAVIOUR own,
To their first state restor❜d:
Rebuilt by His command,
Jerusalem shall rise;

Her temple on Moriah stand
Again, and touch the skies.

Send then Thy servants forth,

To call the Hebrews home :

From east and west, from south and north,
Let all the wanderers come :
Where'er in lands unknown

The fugitives remain,

Bid ev'ry creature help them on,
Thy holy Mount to gain.

Hymn.

Conversion of Jews and Gentiles.

1 LORD over all, if Thou hast made,
Hast ransom'd ev'ry soul of man,
Why is the grace so long delay'd?

Why unfulfill'd the saving plan?
The bliss for Adam's race design'd,
When will it reach to all mankind?

2 Art Thou the GOD of Jews alone,

And not the GOD of Gentiles too? To Gentiles make Thy goodness known; Thy judgments to the nations show; Awake them by the Gospel-call; Light of the world, illumine all!

3 As lightning launch'd from east to west,
The coming of Thy kingdom be;
To Thee, by angel-hosts confest,
Bow ev'ry soul and ev'ry knee :
Thy glory let all flesh behold!
And then fill up Thy heav'nly fold,

Hymn.

Spread of the Gospel.

YES, we trust the day is breaking;
Joyful times are near at hand :
GOD, the mighty GoD, is speaking,
By His Word, in ev'ry land:
When He chooses,

Darkness flies at His command,

2 While the foe becomes more daring,
While he enters like a flood,
GOD, the Saviour, is preparing
Means to spread His truth abroad:
Ev'ry language

Soon shall tell the love of GOD.

3 O! 'tis pleasant, 'tis reviving
To our hearts, to hear each day
Joyful news, from far arriving,
How the Gospel wins its

way:

Those enlight'ning,
Who in death and darkness lay.

4 'Tis a time of expectation:
Awful signs are seen around:
Nation rising against nation :
Kingdoms falling to the ground:
Ancient kingdoms

Perish, and no more are found.

5 GOD of Jacob, high and glorious, Let Thy people see Thy hand: Let the gospel be victorious, Through the world, in ev'ry land; And the idols

Perish, LORD, at Thy command.

DEATH & RESURRECTION.

Hymn.

Uncertainty of Life, and importance of Eternity.

1 THEE we adore, eternal Name,

And humbly own to Thee,
How feeble is our mortal frame!
What dying worms we be!

2 Our wasting lives grow shorter still
As months and days increase!
And every beating pulse we tell
Leaves but the number less.

3 The year rolls round, and steals away
The breath that first it gave;
Whate'er we do, where'er we be,
We're travelling to the grave.

4 Dangers stand thick through all the ground To push us to the tomb,

And fierce diseases wait around

To hurry mortals home.

5 Good GOD! on what a slender thread

Hang everlasting things!

Th' eternal states of all the dead

Upon life's feeble strings.

6 Infinite joy or endless woe
Attends on every breath;

And yet how unconcern'd we go
Upon the brink of death!

7 Waken, O LORD, our drowsy sense
To walk this dangerous road;
And if our souls be hurry'd hence,
May they be found with GOD!

OFT

Hymn.

The tolling Bell.

as the bell, with solemn toll,
Speaks the departure of a soul,
Let each one ask himself, "Am
Prepar'd, should I be call'd to die?"
2 Only this frail and fleeting breath
Preserves me from the jaws of death;
Soon as it fails, at once I'm gone,
And plung❜d into a world unknown.

3 Then leaving all I lov❜d below,
To God's tribunal I must go;

Must hear the Judge pronounce my fate,
And fix my everlasting state.

4 But could I bear to hear Him say,
"Depart, accursed, far away!
With Satan, in the lowest hell,
Thou art for ever doom'd to dwell."

5 LORD JESUS! help me now to flee,
And seek my hope alone in Thee;
Apply Thy blood, Thy SPIRIT give,
Subdue my sin, and bid me live.
