Prone to wander, LORD, I feel it;

Prone to leave the God I love !
Here's my heart, LORD, take and seal it,

Seal it from Thy courts above.

New Year.

THE LORD of earth and sky,

The God of ages praise,
Who reigns enthron'd on high,

Ancient of endless days;
Who lengthens out our trial here,

And spares us yet another year. 2 Barren and wither'd trees,

We cumber'd long the ground;
No fruit of holiness

On our dead souls were found;
Yet doth He us in mercy spare,

Another, and another year.
3 When Justice bar'd the sword,

To cut the fig-tree down,
The pity of our LORD

Cried, · Let it still alone:'
The FATHER mild inclines His ear,
And spåres us yet another year. .
JESUS, Thy speaking blood

From God obtain'd the grace,
Who therefore hath bestow'd

On us a longer space;
Thou didst in our behalf appear,
And, lo! we see another year.

5 Then dig about our root,

Break up our fallow ground,
And let our gracious fruit

To Thy great praise abound.
O let us all Thy praise declare,
And fruit unto perfection bear!

Hymn suited to Youth.

WITH humble heart and tongue,

Great GOD, to Thee we pray:
O may we learn, while we are young,

To walk in wisdom's way.

Now in our early days

Teach us Thy will to know;
Great God, Thy sanctifying grace

Betimes on us bestow.

Our hearts to folly prone,

Renew by pow'r divine;
Unite them to Thyself alone,

And make them wholly Thine.

4 O let Thy word of grace

Our warmest thoughts employ;
Be this, through all our following days,

Our treasure and our joy.
May Thy young servants learn

By these to cleanse their way;
And may we here the path discern

That leads to endless day.

Hymn suited to Youth. 1 BESTOW, dear Lord, upon our youth

The gift of saving grace;
And let the seed of sacred truth

Fall in a fruitful place.
2 Grace is a plant, where'er it grows,

Of pure and heav'nly root;
But fairest in the youngest shows,

And yields the sweetest fruit. 3 Ye careless ones, O hear betimes

The voice of sov'reign love!
Your youth is stain'd with many crimes,

But mercy reigns above.
4 For you the public pray'r is made,

O join the public pray'r!

the secret tear is shed,
O shed yourselves a tear!
5 We pray that you may early prove

The SPIRIT's pow'r to teach:
You cannot be too young to love

That Jesus whom we preach.

Hymn suited to Youth.
| Assist Thy messenger to speak;

And while he aims to lisp Thy truth,
The bonds of sin and satan break,
And pour Thy blessing on our youth.

2 For them we now approach Thy throne,

Teach them to know and love Thy Name; Then shall Thy thankful people own

Elijah's God is still the same. 3 Show them how vile they are by sin,

And wash them in Thy cleansing blood; O, make them willing to be Thine,

And be to them a cov'nant GOD!
4 Long may Thy light and truth remain,

To bless this place when we are gone;
And numbers here be born again,

To dwell for ever near Thy throne !
5 LORD, hear our pray'r, indulge our hope,

On these Thy gracious SPIRIT pour,
That they may take our story up,

When we can speak for Thee no more !

Family Religion. 1

THE pow'r to bless my house

Belongs to God alone;
Yet rend'ring Him my constant vows,

I bring His blessing down: 2 When two or three are met

In Jesu's Name to pray,
He doth our cancell'd sins forget,

And turns His wrath away. 3 Shall I'not then engage

My house to serve the LORD, To search the soul-converting page,

And feed upon His Word;

To ask with faith and hope

The grace His SPIRIT supplies,
In pray’r and praise to offer up

Our daily sacrifice ?
5 SAVIOUR of men, incline

The hearts which Thou hast made, Which Thou hast bought with blood divine,

To ask Thy promis'd aid : 6 Me and my house receive,

Thy family t increase;
And let us in Thy favour live,

And let us die in peace.
