Lymn. Expostulation with Sinners. 1 STOP, poor sinner! stop and think Before you farther go ! of everlasting woe? Into the burning lake! That you His will oppose ? With which He breaks His foes? Like wax before the flame? Will fill you with despair : And what can yoụ reply? 4 Though your heart be made of steel, Your forehead lin’d with brass, He will not let you pass : And Hide us from His face. 5 But as yet there is a hope You may His mercy know; He still forbears the blow: He says, “There still is room." Lyinn. Expostulation with Sinners. i W HY will ye lavish out your years Amidst a thousand trifling cares; While in this various range of thought The one thing needsul is forgot?' And famish an immortal mind; To see you spurn a heav'nly crown? 3 Th' eternal God calls from above, And Jesus pleads His bleeding love; Awaken'd conscience gives you pain ; And shall they join their pleas in vain ? 4 Not so your dying eyes shall view Those objects, which ye now pursue; Not so shall heav'n and hell appear, When the decisive hour is near. . To fix convictions on the heart: i SINNERS, turn, 'why will ye die? GOD, your Maker, asks you why? God, who did your being give, Made you with Himself to live ; 2 He the fatal cause demands, Asks the work of His own hands, 3 Sinners, turn, why will ye die? 4 Will you let Him die in vain? Crucify your LORD again? 5 Sinners, turn, why will ye die ? 6 Will ye not His grace receive ? Will ye still refuse to live ? Hymn. “Why will ye Die?" 1 WHAT could your REDEEMER do More than He hath done for you, To procure your peace with God? Could He more than shed His blood ? After all His waste of love, All His drawings from above, Why will ye your LORD deny? “Why will ye resolve to die?" By His life your God hath sworn: “Why will ye resolve to die ?” Dare not think Him insincere: Now, e'en now, your SAVJOUR stands;. All day long He spreads His hands : Cries, “ Ye will not happy be! “ No, ye will not come to Me! “Me, who life to none deny; “Why will ye resolve to die ?" If to all His bowels move? i Now to the LORD a noble song! ? See where it shines in JESU's face, The brightest image of His grace: 3 The spacious earth and spreading flood Proclaim the wise and powerful God; And Thy rich glories from afar Sparkle in ev'ry rolling star. . 4 But in His looks a glory stands, The noblest labour of Thine hands : |
