AUDITOR'S OFFICE, MIDDLEBURY, SEPT. 18th, 1867.

To the General Assembly of the State of Vermont :

I have the honor to submit my annual report for the year ending September 1st, 1867.

Orders on the Treasurer heve been drawn at this office to the amount of $194,533 39, a statement of which in detail, together with a statement of the various accounts on which the same have been drawn, will be found appended.

Assisted by the Inspector of Finance, I have made the regular examination of the accounts of the Treasurer for the past fiscal year, and find all his charges authenticated by proper vouchers, which were duly cancelled. The report of the Treasurer of the receipts and disbursements, and the financial condition of the State, is annexed, and is a correct statement of the

same.

Since the last report, I have presented to the General Government for re-imbursement a third installment of the claim of the State for money expended in raising, &c., troops to aid in the suppression of the rebellion, to the amount of $47,119 96. Of this amount $41,067 50 has been allowed on examination by the accounting officers of the Treasury Department. I have also presented the claim of the State for the sum expended in defence of the frontier in 1864, amounting to $16,920 60. Of this sum $16,463 81 has been allowed, being all that could be allowed under the joint resolution of Congress, of June 23d, 1866, providing for the payment of this claim. The above sums amount
