The following joint resolution, under which the work was printed, passed the two Houses of Congress :

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, March 1, 1871. Roolred, That the House concur in the foregoing resolution in relation to the printing of Treaties and Conventions. Attest:
EDWARD MCPHERSON, Clerk. It was intended that the notes and indices, as they appear in this edition, should have formed part of the entire edition ; but there was an unavoidable delay in the preparation, by means of which some incomplete copies have got into circulation.
These errors have been rectified in a large portion of the edition ordered by Congress for the Department of State, and the corrected copies are, for convenience, styled “Revised Edition” on the title-page, in order to distinguish them from the incomplete copies.
The English versions only are given in this collection. The Synoptical Index gives reference in all cases to the page and volume of the Statutes at Large, where may be found the version in other languages of such treaties as are subscribed in two or more languages.
