ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION, HACKENSACK, N J.
According to announcement, the first anniversary of " Amity
Tent, No. 53," was celebrated on Wednesday last.
At ten
o'clock, A. M., we joined a party which had been made up for
the purpose of visiting the Hackensack brethren, and taking
passage in the steamboat " Boston," Capt. Wilson Small, pro-
ceeded to Fort Lee, and thence, by stage, to the beautiful vil-
lage of Hackensack, where we found that preparations had
been made for a procession and public meeting on the "Green."
At 2 o'clock the brethren assembled at the tent-room, where
we found respectable delegations from Fulton Tent, of Jersey
city, and Cataract Tent, of Paterson, with their respective ban-

ners.

The New York delegation had engaged Dingle's celebrated "Washington Brass Band," which "discoursed most eloquent music," affording quite a treat to the citizens of Hackensack. The "Hackensack Brass Band" was also in attendance, and performed very creditably, although from lack of practice, so great a degree of proficiency in the musical science could not be expected of them as of the New York Band.

under the shade of a large willow tree. The stage was occu-
pied by the P. C. R.'s of the several tents, the speakers, and
Dingle's Brass Band," which at intervals performed several
beautiful and popular airs.

The exercises were commenced by the brethren singing the opening hymn, after which Bro. PLows, of Covenant Tent, addressed the Throne of Grace. in a fervent and appropriate manner. The 35th chapter of Jeremiah was then read by Bro. Plows, after which the band played a national air, and Bro. JAMES G. BURNETT, D. C. R., was introduced to the audience.

He delivered an address upon the subject of Rechabitism and

was listened to with attention. After some more music, and a song by Bro. WM. E. HORTON, of Washington Marine Tent, Bro. Dr. HOPPER, of Hackensack, engaged the attention of the audience for a short time, concluding his remarks by thanking the brethren of other tents for their kindness in aiding Amity Tent to celebrate her first anniversary. The closing hymn was then sung, and the afternoon's services concluded by the band playing, (at the request of the ladies,) the popular overture to the "Bohemian Girl."

We cannot close this sketch of the day's proceedings with out returning thanks, not only in our own behalf, but in behalf of the other brethren, for the kindness with which we were all received by the brothers of Amity Tent. We never spent a more pleasant day in our lives-the country air was refreshing, the sky serene, the shade of the green trees grateful to impri

soned “cils”—and last, though not least, the bright eyes, and beaming countenances of "nature's dear bewitchers"—the ladies, lent an enchantment to the scene, which it otherwise would have been destitute of.

Leaving the village about six o'clock, we arrived in the city about 9. P. M. We regret to state that in coming to Fort Lee, one of the brethren of Washington Marine Tent was severely
