[ENDORSEMENT OF SUMMONS.]

The 22nd day of April, the yeir of God one thousand five hundred and five yeirs, I, Richard Brown, Massinger, one of the Sheriffs within written, passed at the command of our Sovrane Lords lettres to the Sheriff of Perth and apprehendit him personalie in Edinburgh, and the said day I commandit and chairgit him, in our Sovrane Lord the Kings name, personalie to put our Sovrane Lord the Kings lettres directit to him in the mater within written to due execution, and to make the Freiris Predicatours of the Burgh of St. Johnston be paid of the petis obtained of the said Freiris upon Margaret Logy and Thomas Hay, as within written, and under the pains contenit in thir our Sovrane Lord's lettres: and this I did before thir witnesses, Henry Bruce, John Strang, and William Rodgie, with others divers for the mair witnessing of this my execution, I have set hereto my signet before the said witnesses.

ROBERTUS, Dei gratia, Rex Scotorum, omnibus probis hominibus terræ suæ Salutem Sciatis, quod, pro salute animæ meæ, animarum antecessorum et successorum nostrorum, Regum Scotiæ, de gratia nostra speciali concessimus religiosis viris, Fratribus Prædicatoribus de Perth, in liberam puram et perpetuam eleemosinam quod ipsi, et eorum successores, in perpetuum liberi sint a præstatione multuræ, et "rum-fre" post bladum nostrum et bladum cancellarii justiciarii et camerarii nostri, qui pro tempore fuerint, et bladum inventum in trimodio, cum ad molendinum venerint dicti fratres ad molendina nostra de Perth: videlicet, de quinque celdris

frumenti et decem celdris ordei singulis annis molendis ibidem. Præterea volumus et concedimus, quod dicti fratres et eorum successores libere molant, ad molendina nostra prædicta, sine præstatione multuræ, omnimoda quæ adquisierint pro sustentatione sua propria. [Charter of King Robert I. (Bruce) granting the Friars right to have five chalders of corn, and ten chalders of barley yearly, besides what might be necessary for their proper subsistence, ground free of 'multure' at the mills of Perth, with 'Roum-fre,' or service, after the grain of his chancellor, justiciar, and chamberlain, or what was in the hopper, had been disposed of for the time.
