No Jonging we find for the country behind; But onward we move,

And still we are seeking a country above.

3 A country of joy, without any alloy; We thither repair:

Our hearts and our treasure already are there. We march hand in hand to Immanuel's land; No matter what cheer

We meet with on earth, for eternity's near!

4 The rougher our way, the shorter our stay; The tempests that rise

Shall gloriously hurry our souls to the skies:
The fiercer the blast, the sooner 'tis past,
The troubles that come,

Shall come to our rescue, and hasten us home.

Hymn 221. P. M.

COME, let us ascend,

My companion and friend,

To a taste of the banquet above!
If thy heart be as mine,
If for Jesus it pine,

Come up into the chariot of love.

Who in Jesus confide,

We are bold to outride

The storms of affliction beneath!

With the prophet we soar

To the heavenly shore,

And outfly all the arrows of death.

3 By faith we are come

To our permanent home,

By hope we the rapture improve,

4

By love we still rise,

And look down on the skies,

For the heaven of heavens is love.

Who on earth can conceive,
How happy we live

In the palace of God the great King!
What a concert of praise,

When our Jesus's grace
The whole heavenly company sing!

5 What a rapturous song,
When the glorified throng
In the spirit of harmony join;
Join all the glad choirs,
Hearts, voices, and lyres,
And the burden is mercy divine.
Hallelujah, they cry,

To the King of the sky,

To the great everlasting I AM;
To the Lamb that was slain,
And liveth again,

Hallelujah to God and the Lamb,

The Lamb on the throne,

Lo! he dwells with his own,
And to rivers of pleasure he leads;
With his mercy's full blaze,
With the sight of his face,
Our beatified spirits he feeds.

Our foreheads proclaim
His ineffable name;

Our bodies his glory display;

A day without night,
We feast in his sight,
And eternity seems as a day,

Hymn 222. C. M.

1 TRY us, O God, and search the ground Of every sinful heart:

Whate'er of sin in us is found,
O bid it all depart!

2 When to the right or left we stray,
Leave us not comfortless;

'But guide our feet into the way
Of everlasting peace.

3 Help us to help each other, Lord,
Each other's cross to bear;
Let each his friendly aid afford,
And feel his brother's care.

4 Help us to build each other up,
Our little stock improve;
Increase our faith, confirm our hope,
And perfect us in love.

5 Up into thee, our living Head,
Let us in all things grow;

Till thou hast made us free indeed,
And spotless here below.

6 Then when the mighty work is wrought, Receive thy ready bride;

Give us in heaven a happy lot
With all the sanctified.

Hymn 223.

P. M.

THOU God of truth and love,

Twe seek thy perfect way,

Ready thy choice t' approve,
Thy providence t' obey;

Enter into thy wise design,

And sweetly lose our will in thine.

2 Why hast thou cast our lot

In the same age and place?
And why together brought

To see each other's face;
To join with softest sympathy,
And mix our friendly souls in thee?
3 Didst thou not make us one,

That we might one remain?
Together travel on,

And bear each other's pain?
Till all thy utmost goodness prove,
And rise renew'd in perfect love."

4 Surely thou didst unite

Our kindred spirits here,
That all hereafter might

Before thy throne appear?

Meet at the marriage of the Lamb,
And all thy gracious love proclaim.

5 Then let us ever bear

The blessed end in view,
And join with mutual care,

To fight our passage through;
And kindly help each other on,
Till all receive the starry crown.
60 may the Spirit seal

Our souls unto that day!
With all thy fulness fill,"

And then transport away!

Away to our eternal rest,
Away to our Redeemer's breast.

1F Remember us for good;

ATHER of our dying Lord,

O fulfil his faithful word,

And hear his speaking blood!
Give us that for which he prays:
Father glorify thy Son;

[ocr errors]

Show his truth, and power, and grace,
And send the promise down.

2 True and faithful Witness thou,
O Christ, the Spirit give!
Hast thou not receiv'd him now,
That we might now receive?
Art thou not our living Head?
Life to all thy limbs impart ;
Shed thy love, thy Spirit shed,
In every waiting heart.

3 Holy Ghost, the Comforter,
The gift of Jesus, come;

1

Glow our hearts to find thee near,
And swell to make thee room;
Present with us thee we feel,
Come, O come, and in us be!
With us, in us, live and dwell
To all eternity.

Hymn 225.

P. M.

JESUS, Lord, we look to thee,

Let us in thy name agree;

Show thyself the Prince of Peace:
Bid our jars for ever cease.
