Hymn 136. P. M.

IN boundless mercy, gracious Lord, ap

pear,
Darkness dispel, the humble mourner cheer,
"Vain thoughts remove, melt down this flinty
heart;

Cause every soul to choose the better part.
2 Thy presence fills the universal space;
Thy grace appears to all the fallen race;
O visit us with light and life divine,
Fill every soul, for every soul is thine.
3 The blessed Jesus is my Lord, my love;
He is my King, from him I would not move;
Away then, all ye objects that divert,

Nor seek to draw from my dear Lord my heart..
4 That uncreated beauty which hath gain'd
My ravish'd heart, hath all your glory stain'd;
His 'oveliness my soul hath prepossess'd,
And left no room for any other guest..
Hymn 137. C. M.
LORD, all I am is known to thee;
In vain my soul would try

To shun thy presence, or to flee
The notice of thine eye.

2 Thy all-surrounding sight surveys
My rising and my rest,

My public walks, my private ways,
The secrets of my breast.

3 My thoughts lie open to thee, Lord,
Before they're form'd within,

And ere my lips pronounce the word,,
Thou know'st the sense I meas..

4 O wond'rous knowledge, deep and high;
Where can a creature hide?
Within thy circling arms I lie,
Beset on every side.

5 So let thy grace surround me still,
And like a bulwark prove,
To guard my soul from every ill,
Secur'd by sov'reign love.

Hymn 138. S. M.

NATHÉR, I dare believe

FA

Thee merciful and true:
Thou wilt my guilty soul forgive,
My fallen soul renew.

2 Come then, for Jesu's sake,

And bid my heart be clean:
An end of all my troubles make;
An end of all my sin.

3 I cannot wash my heart,

But by believing thee;

And waiting for thy blood t' impart

The spotless purity.

4 While at thy cross I lie,

Jesus the grace bestow;

Now, thy all-cleansing biood apply,
And I am white as snow.

Hymn 139. C. M.

I ASK the gift of righteousness,

The sin-subduing power;

Power to believe, and go in peace,
And never grieve thee more.

2 My veh❜ment soul cries out oppress'd,
Impatient to be freed!

Nor can I, Lord, nor will I rest,
Till I am sav'd indeed.

3 Art thou not able to convert ?
Art thou not willing too,
To change this old rebellious heart,
To conquer and renew?

Hymn 140. P. M.

LOVING Jesus, gentle Lamb,

In thy gracious hands

am, Make me, Saviour, what thou art, Live thyself within my heart. 2 I shall then show forth thy praise, Serve thee all my happy days, Then the world shall always see Christ the holy child in me!

Hymn 141. L. M.

1 THOU who comest from above, The pure celestial fire t' impart,

Kindle a flame of sacred love

On the mean altar of my heart! 2 There let it for thy glory burn, With inextinguishable blaze, And trembling to its source return, In humble love and fervent praise. 3 Jesus, confirm my heart's desire, To work, and speak, and think for thee; Still let me guard the holy fire, And still stir up thy gift in me.

4 Ready for all thy perfect will,
My acts of faith and love repeat;
Till death thy endless mercies seal,
And make the sacrifice complete.

Hymn 142.

P. M.

Tarcauses anxious thought:
NIS a point I long to know,

Do I love the Lord or no?

Am I his or am I not?

2 If I love, why am I thus?

Why this dull and lifeless frame? Hardly, sure, can they be worse, Who have never beard his name. 3 Could my heart so hard remain, Prayer a task and burden prove; Every trifle give me pain,

If I knew a Saviour's love? 4 When I turn mine eyes within,

O how dark, and vain, and wild!
Prone to unbelief and sin,

Can I deem myself a child?
5 If I pray, or hear, or read,
Faith is weak in all do;
You that love the Lord indeed,
Tell me, is it thus with you?
6 Yet I mourn my stubborn will,
Find my sin a grief and thrall:
Should I grieve for what I feel,
If I did not love at all?

7 Could I joy with saints to meet, Choose the ways I once abhorr'd;

Find at times, the promise sweet,
If I did not love thee, Lord?

8 Lord, decide the doubtful case,
Thou who art thy people's sun;
Shine upon thy work of grace,
If it be indeed begun.

9 Let me love thee more and more,
If I love at all, I pray;
If I have not lov'd before,
Help me to begin to-day.

REJOICING AND PRAISE.

Hymn 143. P. M.

YE happy sinners, hear,

The pris'ners of the Lord,

And wait till Christ appear,
According to his word;
Rejcice in hope, rejoice with me,
We shall from all our sins be free.

2 The Lord our righteousness,

We have long since receiv'd; Salvation nearer is

Than when we first believ'd; Rejoice in hope, rejoice with me, We shall from all our sins be free. 3 In God we put our trust;

If we our sins confess,

Faithful he is and just

From all unrighteousness,
