PREFACE

ALL the papers which appear in this volume have already been printed either in pamphlet form, or in the reports of Church Congresses and Diocesan Conferences. But it is thought desirable to bring them together in one volume, so that they may give something like a continuous view of Dr. Creighton's ideas on the most important questions affecting the Church of England at this time. It is inevitable that there should be a certain amount of repetition in such a reprint, but it has seemed better to leave the addresses as they stand rather than make any attempt to rearrange their contents; only those portions dealing with current Diocesan affairs have been omitted. One or two of the addresses were delivered ex tempore, and exist only as taken down by the reporters. These have been, as far as possible, corrected and put into shape.
