The Edward Miller Company erected a new brick factory building. Its dimensions are 40x98 feet, three stories high, and it cost $9,000. The building was constructed for the purpose of relieving pressure in other departments and will eventually afford room for fifty extra employes.

The Charles Parker Company put up a new brick foundry building. It is of brick construction, 60x120 feet, one story high, and cost $7,500. Fifteen additional hands are. employed.

M. B. Schenck made a two-story frame addition to his establishment 15x40 feet in size which cost $500.

MIDDLEFIELD.

The Lyman Gun Sight Company erected a new factory building 40x100 feet in size, one story high. The structure is of brick and cost approximately $7,500. Five more persons than the usual number are employed.

MIDDLETOWN.

The plant of the New England Enamelling Company has been completed since July 1, 1902. The building is entirely of brick, 125x500 feet in size, of which 75x125 is two stories and the balance one story high. The estimated cost of the structure is $70,000 and the company employs four hundred persons.

MYSTIC.

The Packer Manufacturing Company built a new store house of brick with slate roof. The building is one story high, 41x71 feet in size, and cost $6,500.

NAUGATUCK.

The White & Wells Manufacturing Company erected a new brick structure to replace its plant which had been destroyed by fire. The building is three stories high with basement. The dimensions are 60x100 feet and the cost $5,000.

NEW BRITAIN.

The P. & F. Corbin Company erected a new iron foundry building, one story high and 60x400 feet in size. The

structure is of frame construction and the cost estimated at $14,000.

Landers, Frary & Clark added a new factory building to their already extensive plant. It is two stories in height, 58x107 feet in size. The cost is placed at $7,000 and the increase in number of employes is reported as being two hundred.

The New Britain Knitting Company built a new dyehouse. The building is of brick, one story high, 44x66 feet in size, and cost $5,000.

The North & Judd Manufacturing Company added two new buildings to its plant. Both structures are of brick, one building being one story high, 60x80 feet, and is used for a brass foundry; the other is two stories in height, 50x125 feet in size, which is used for the purpose of tinning malleable iron castings. The cost of both buildings is reported as having been $16,500 and fifty additional hands are employed.

The Rackcliffe Brothers Company built a new threestory brick structure 46x69 feet in size. The building is used for a store house and workshop and cost $6,000. Two additional hands are employed.

The Russell & Erwin Manufacturing Company built a new seven-story building 50x171 feet in size. The building is to be used for the manufacture of automobiles and builders hardware, and is of brick and iron slow burning mill construction. The reported cost is $55,000, and as the structure was not wholly completed at the close of this report no estimate could be given as to the increase in number employed.

The Stanley Rule & Level Company made seven additions to its plant. The buildings are of brick, with the exception of the saw mill, which is of wood. (For dimensions see page 41.) The cost of the whole is approximately $135,000 and it is estimated that 150 additional hands will be employed.

The Union Manufacturing Company added one story to a factory building already erected. The addition is of brick, 35x96 feet in size, and cost $6,000. Ten additional hands are employed.

The John Zunner Health Beer Company built an entirely new plant of brick and wood. (For dimensions see page 41.) The estimated cost of the whole is $8,500.

NEW HAVEN.

There was built for the occupancy of the Alderhurst Iron Company during the year a new brick structure one story high, 45x65 feet in size, the estimated cost of which is $4,000. Ten persons are employed.

D. W. Baldwin erected a brick addition for use as a blacksmith and wood working shop. The building is 40x40 feet in size, one and one-half stories high, and cost $1,200.

The Bauman Rubber Company built an addition to its factory for manufacturing rubber goods. The building is of brick construction, one part 32x57 feet, one story high, the other portion 31x32 feet, three stories high with base

The cost of the addition was reported as being $5,800. The Bradley-Smith Company made an addition to its building for the manufacturing of confectionery. The structure is of brick, 36x50 feet in size, three stories high, and cost $1,500.

The Connecticut Fat Rendering and Fertilizer Company had in process of construction on July 1, 1903, and which was nearly approaching completion, a new plant all of brick construction, and consisting of a three-story building 40x80 feet, a two-story addition 20x120 feet, engine room 20x40 feet and a boiler house 18x40 feet. The total cost is $17,182.

The Foskett & Bishop Company erected an entirely new plant for manufacturing purposes during the year. The buildings are of brick, being 30x160 feet, one story high, and 40x112 feet, two stories with basement, respectively. The stated cost was $15,000.

The Howard Company, successors to the E. A. Chatfield Company, erected an entirely new plant in place of the former establishment, which was destroyed by fire November 8, 1902. The buildings consist of a frame, galvanized iron covered engine house 30x30 feet, two stories high, and a brick factory building 70x150 feet, three stories in height.

The cost of the whole is $13,000, and five additional hands are employed.

The Marlin Fire Arms Company built a new four-story brick office building 40x60 feet in size, which cost approximately $5,000.

The National Wire Corporation, located at Fair Haven, made an extensive enlargement to its plant during the year, partly of wood construction, but, mostly of brick. (For dimensions see page 41). The Corporation failed to furnish the department with the cost of construction of the buildings, and the amount as given is the result of a careful estimate, which is approximately $145,800. The number of employes is placed by the Corporation at 750.

Sargent & Company added to its extensive plant by raising two buildings one story each, 32x100 feet, extended one foundry building 100x155 feet, erected a building 50x155 feet, five stories high, also a structure one story high 50x150 feet. All the buildings are of brick and cost approximately $50,000 and furnish room for the employment of 200 additional hands.

The G. F. Warner Manufacturing Company erected a one-story frame building, 30x60 feet in size, and built a brick addition 52x52 feet, also one story high. The reported cost is $4,000 and four additional hands are employed.

NEWINGTON.

The Taco Milling Company erected a new four-story brick building 60x125 feet in size, the reported cost of which is $15,000.

NEW LONDON.

The Brown Cotton Gin Company built a brick addition. to its factory 45x90 feet in size, two stories high with attic. The cost was stated as being $12,000.

NEW MILFORD.

The Bridgeport Wood Finishing Company of New Milford built at Still River a frame factory building two stories high, 50x150 feet in size, with two ells 50x50 feet. The com

pany also built at Branchville a frame silex mill two stories high, the dimensions of which are 50x100 feet. The cost of the whole is $40,000.

NORWALK.

The Colonial Foundry & Machine Company at East Norwalk enlarged its foundry building from 50x50 feet to 100X100 feet, built a machine shop 40x100 feet, also a new warehouse and storage room 40x40 feet. All the buildings are of frame construction and three stories high with the exception of the foundry building which is one story in height. The cost of the whole is $15,000, and 30 additional hands are employed.

Joseph Loth & Company erected a complete new factory of brick, two stories high, 200x210 feet in size. The cost is approximately $100,000, and will furnish room for the employment of 200 additional persons.

Arthur C. Wheeler made a small addition to his washing and blocking department to better facilitate the work in these departments. The addition is of brick three stories high, 30x60 feet in size and cost $5,400.

NORWICH.

The American Wood Working Machine Company dismantled its foundry building and put in a floor for storage purposes about 30x80 feet in size. It is of frame and brick construction and cost $1,200.

The W. H. Davenport Firearms Company enlarged its boiler house and blacksmith shop and built a coal pocket. The boiler house is of brick construction and the coal pocket of frame. The first named building is 44x48 feet in size and the other building 32x32 feet. The cost of both is $3,500.

The Givenand Brothers Silk Company erected a new brick engine room one story high, 32x37 feet in size, which cost $3,000.

The J. B. Martin Silk Company at Taftville built a new building of brick one story high for use as a weaving room. The building is 145x150 feet in size and cost $20,000. Twenty-five additional hands are employed.
