The following Petition was brought up and laid on the Table:-

By the Honorable Mr. Prince-of Frederick John Cheshire, formerly resident in, acting as Town Clerk of, and also elected District Councillor for, the Township of Tuscarora, Grand River.

Pursuant to the Order of the Day the following Petitions were severally read:

Of E. Webster and others, of the Village of Creemore, praying for the passing of the Bill for the relief of the Ontario, Simcoe and Huron Railroad Union Company.

Of Edward Webster and others, of the Township of Nottawasaga, praying that Municipalities may be empowered to levy a special rate on all lands where the settlement duties required by Government are not performed.

The Honorable Mr. Ross from the Select Committee, to whom was referred the Bill intituled "An Act to incorporate Knox College," reported that they gone through the said Bill, and had directed him to report the same to the House without any amendment.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Ross, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Vankoughnet, it was

Ordered, That the said Bill be read a third time presently.

The said Bill was then read a third time accordingly.

The question was put whether this Bill shall pass?

It was resolved in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the Clerk do go down to the Legislative Assembly and acquaint that House that the Legislative Council have passed this Bill without any amendment.

The Honorable Mr. Panet enters.

The Honorable Mr. Taché from the Select Committee to whom was referred the Bill intituled "An Act to amend the Acts relating to the Grand Trunk "Railway Company of Canada," reported that they had gone through the said Bill, and had directed him to report the same to the House without any amend

ment.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Morris, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Ross, it was

Ordered, That the said Bill and the Report of the Select Committee thereon, be committed to a Committee of the whole House presently.

The House was then, according to Order, adjourned during pleasure, and put into a Committee of the whole on the said Bill.

After some time the House was resumed, and

The Honorable Mr. Moore reported from the said Committee that they had gone through the said Bill and had directed him to report the same to the House without any amendment.

The Honorable Mr. Taché moved, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Van koughnet,

That the said Bill be now read a third time.

The question of concurrence being put thereon, the same was resolved in the affirmative, and

The said Bill was then read a third time accordingly.

Then the Honorable Mr. Morris moved, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Ferrie,

That the following proviso be added to the third clause of said Bill, “Provided always, that the further capital to be borrowed by the "Company, shall not exceed the sum of £2,500,000 sterling."

That the following proviso be added to the fifth clause of said Bill, “Provided always, that the earnings as aforesaid shall be applied as "follows:-First, in and towards the payment of the interest "upon the amount of preferential bonds already issued. "Secondly, in and towards the payment of the interest upon "amount which, for the time being, shall have been raised "by the issue of preferential bonds authorized by this Act."

The Honorable Mr. de Blaquière from the Select Committee to whom was referred the Bill intituled" An Act to explain and amend the Act intituled 'An "Act to enable the Members of the United Church of England and Ireland in "Canada to meet in Synod,'" reported that they had gone through the said Bill and had directed him to report the same to the House without any amend

ment.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. de Blaquière, seconded by the Honorable Prince, it was

Ordered, That the said Bill be read a third time to-morrow.

The Honorable Mr. Morris presented to the House a Bill intituled "An Act "further to amend the Act incorporating the Metropolitan Gas and Water Company of Toronto,"

The Honorable Mr. Panet from the Select Committee to whom was referred the Bill intituled "An Act to divide the County of Charlevoix into two County "Municipalities," reported that they had gone through the said Bill, and had directed him to report the same to the House without any amendment.

The Honorable Mr. Patton from the Select Committee to whom was referred the Bill intituled "An Act to legalize the By-law number eighteen, of the Village "of Ingersoll, for raising a certain sum of money therein mentioned," reported that they had gone through the said Bill, and had directed him to report the same to the House without any amendment.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Patton, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Prince, it was

Ordered, That the said Bill be read a third time to-morrow.

The Honorable Mr. Patton from the Select Committee to whom was referred "the Bill intituled "An Act to amend the Act intituled An Act to authorize "the City of Toronto to erect Water Works and to levy a Water Rate," reported

that they had gone through the said Bill, and had directed him to report the same with several amendments, which he was ready to submit whenever the House would be pleased to receive them.

Ordered, That the Report be now received, and

The said amendments being twice read by the Clerk, and the question of concurrence put on each, they were severally agreed to.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Patton, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Simpson, it was

Ordered, that the said Bill with the amendments be printed and read a third time to-morrow.

The Order of the Day being read for the third reading of the Bill intituled "An Act for the amendment of the Laws with respect to Wills,"

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Vankoughnet, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Knowlton, it was

Ordered, That the same be postponed until Monday next.

Pursuant to the Order of the Day the Bill intituled "An Act to authorize a deviation from the Laws of Lower Canada, as regards certain substitutions "created by the Will of the late Dame Ann Wragg," was read a third time. The question was put whether this Bill shall pass?

It was resolved in the affirmative.

Pursuant to the Order of the Day, the Bill intituled "An Act to authorize the “Senate of the University of Toronto to appropriate certain Lands for the purposes of a Park, and to include the same within the limits of the City of Toronto, "and to extend the Police regulations of the said City to the University Lands "adjacent thereto," was read a third time.

The question was put whether this Bill shall pass?

It was resolved in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the Clerk do go down the Legislative Assembly and, acquaint that House that the Legislative Council have passed these Bills, to which they desire their concurrence.

Pursuant to the Order of the Day the Bill intituled "An Act to amend the Law regulating the inspection of Flour and Meal," was read a third time.

The question was put whether this Bill shall pass ?

It was resolved in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the Clerk do go down to the Legislative Assembly and acquaint that Ilouse that the Legislative Council have passed this Bill without any aniendment.

The Order of the Day being read for the second reading of the Bill intituled "An Act to vest certain portions of Bathurst Street, in the City of London, in "the London and Port Stanley Railway Company, and to facilitate the said "Company in the disposal of certain of their Real Estate,"
