Pursuant to the Order of the Day the following Petitions were severally read: Of A. Massue and others, of the County of Verchères, praying for an annual grant for the establishment and maintenance of Model Schools of Agriculture.

Of L. O. LeBlanc and C. H. Panneton, praying to be remunerated for their services as Returning Officers at the Municipal Elections for the Parishes of St. Thomas and St. Antoine de Lavaltrie, in 1843, 1844 and 1845.

The Honorable Mr. Quesnel enters.

The Honorable Mr. Simpson from the Select Committee appointed to superintend the printing of this House during the present Session, presented their Sixth Report.

Ordered, That it be received, and

The same was then read by the Clerk as follows:

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, Committee Room, 16th July, 1858. The Select Committee appointed to superintend the Printing of this House during the present Session, on the reference made to them on the ninth instant, of the Return to an Address to His Excellency the Governor General, dated the tenth ultimo, praying His Excellency to cause a Return to be laid before this House of the names, occupations, trades and callings of each and every Custom House Officer in the County of Essex, including such (if any) as hold Municipal Offices or any other public office, such as Justices of the Peace or aught else, as well as the names and callings of any subordinate Officers in the Customs, such as Surveyors, Landing Waiters, Watchers, or any other inferior Officer therein; with the amount of annual salary and fees attached to each of the above named employes, and the date of appointment, and the amount of revenue actually received and collected at each Custom House within the last three years, and paid over to the public revenue; and the sums actually paid over by each Custom House Officer, or Receiver of Customs, from his wn office; and for an account also of the Seizures made by each such Officer within the last four years, and the price at which such Seizures were sld, and how the proceeds of sales were divided or disposed of, beg leave to report that, in their opinion, the said Return should be printed, in English only, for the use of Members.

And on the reference made to Your Committee on the fifteenth instant, of the Return to an Address presented to His Excellency the Governor General on the eighth instant, praying His Excellency to cause to be communicated to this House the reasons which have prevented the Indian Depar:ment from distributing to the Indians of Lower Canada the sum of one thousand pounds, which they are entitled to receive as an annuity, under the Act 14 and 15 Vict. cap 106, Your Committee beg leave to report that, in their opinion, the said Return should be printed, in French only, for the use of Members.

Ordered, That said Report be adopted.

The Honorable Mr. Patton from the Select Committee to whom was referred the Bill intituled "An Act to establish the true location of the allowance for road "between the Municipalities of Toronto Gore and Etobicoke," reported that they had gone through the said Bill, and had directed him to report the same to the House without any amendment.

Then the Honorable Mr. Patton moved, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Dessaulles,

That the said Report be adopted.

After Debate,

The question of concurrence was put thereon, and the same was resolved in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the said Bill be read a third time on Monday next.

The Honorable Mr. Ross enters.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Morris, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Simpson, it was

Ordered, That a Select Committee, consisting of nine Members, be appointed to take into consideration the Money Order system, as it prevails in the Post Office Department; and also the Return made to this House on the fifth instant, to the Address to His Excellency the Governor General, of the tenth ultimo, on the subject of the Money Orders drawn since the first day of January last at the following Post Offices, viz: Perth, Smith's Falls, Mirickville, Prescott and Brockville, and that the said Committee, be composed of the Honorable Messieurs Vankoughnet, Taché, Simpson, Patton, Goodhue, Moore, Quesnel, Boulton and the mover, with power to send for persons and papers, and to report thereon.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Vankoughnet, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Prince, it was

Ordered, That the Honorable Messieurs Morris and Patton be added to the Select Committee to whom has been referred the Bill intituled "An Act respect"ing the Municipal Institutions of Upper Canada."

Pursuant to the Order of the Day the Bill intituled "An Act to change "the name of the North Shore Railway and St. Maurice Navigation Company," was read a third time.

The question was put whether this Bill shall pass?

It was resolved in the affirmative.

Pursuant to the Order of the Day the Bill intituled "An Act to extend the 66 powers of the Trinity House of Quebec," was read a third time.

The question was put whether this Bill shall pass?

It was resolved in the affirmative.

Pursuant to the Order of the Day, the Bill intituled "An Act to amend the "Charter of Victoria College," was read a third time.

The question was put whether this Bill shall pass?

It was resolved in the affirmative.

Pursuant to the Order of the Day the Bill intituled "An Act to authorize "the Municipality of the Parish of Ste. Marguerite de Blairfindie to open a "certain road," was read a third time.

The question was put whether this Bill shall pass?

It was resolved in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the Clerk do go down to the Legislative Assembly, and acquaint that House that the Legislative Council have passed these Bills without any amendment.

The Order of the Day being read for the second reading of the Bill intituled "An Act for enforcing the Lien of this Province in respect of claims against cer"tain Railway Companies,"

The Honorable Mr. Vankoughnet moved, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Knowlton,

That the said Bill be now read a second time,

After Debate,

The question of concurrence was put thereon, the same was resolved in the affirmative, and

The said Bill was then read a second time accordingly.

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House on Monday next.

The Order of the Day being read for putting the House into a Committee of the whole on the Bill intituled "An Act to make better provision for the registra"tion of Deeds, in the Counties of Charlevoix and Saguenay," and also on the Report of the Select Committee thereon,

On motion of the Honorable Mr. de LaTerriére, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Moore, it was

Ordered, That the same be postponed until Monday next.

The Order of the Day being read for the second reading of the Bill intituled "An Act to define the limits of the chef-lieu of the District of Bedford, and to "change the name from Nelsonville to Missisquoi, and for other purposes,"

The Honorable Mr. Knowlton moved, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Ross, That the forty-ninth and fifty-seventh Rules of this House be dispensed with in to far as they relate to this Bill.

Which being objected to,

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Moore, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Ross, it was

Ordered, That the same be postponed until Tuesday next.

The House, according to Order, proceeded to the consideration of the amendments made by the Legislative Assembly to the Bill intituled "An Act to "remedy certain informalities with respect to the Assessment Rolls of the Town "of Windsor, in the County of Essex," and

The said amendments being again read by the Clerk,

On motion of the Honorable Mr. Prince, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Patton, it was

Ordered, That the same be adopted.

Ordered, That the Clerk do go down to the Legislative Assembly and acquaint that House that the Legislative Council doth agree to the amendments made to the said Bill without any amendment.

The Honorable Mr. Patton presented to the House a Bill intituled "An Act "to amend an Act to authorize the City of Toronto to erect Water Works and levy a water rate."

The said Bill was read for the first time.

Ordered, That the said Bill be read a second time on Monday next.

Then on motion of the Honorable Mr. Fergusson, seconded by the Honorable Mr. Knowlton,

The House adjourned until Monday next, at three o'clock in the afternoon.
